Why new? Let someone else take the depreciation hit for driving it off the lot. I'd bet you can get a year old Impreza (CBS, not OBS) for under 17k easy.

She just really wants a new car. I'll see what I can talk her into. But I have a new car so its going to be hard to get past that point

That's easy, just point out how quickly you were able to ruin your Fiesta. Promise to do the same thing to her new car.

awd isn't a necessity. go get a versa note for 16 grand and get a set of snows for winter.

Was stuck behind a guy with a bumper sticker that said "all the ugly woman voted fir Obama" this morning

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

Depending on what her commute is and all that, just get a cheaper FWD compact that gets good gas mileage. I agree with not going brand new unless you can get a really good deal on a leftover model.

Kates Sentra does well enough in the snow without snow tires. If it's bad enough outside, I'll end up driving her to work and probably working from home anyway.

Without a doubt one of the worst cars I have ever driven. Got it for a rental in Michigan back in February. Has zero balls what so ever to even accelerate on the highway (I'm not talking about racing, I'm talking about to do a lane change, etc.) And it was horrible with the snowy weather. The whole set up/controls/vis was just terrible. I had requested not getting a Ford Focus when they were assigning me the car, but 10 minutes into the trip I regretted that decision.

Unless they drastically changed the price in the last 2 years, you can get a brand new base model imprezza for under $20k.

Edit: Imprezza base price is $17,800

Versa or versa note? Tarah has a first gen versa sedan w the bigger motor and it is a fantastic car. With the tires I put on it over the winter it is fantastic in snow even without any traction control or whatever.

Versa Note, the car you said. The little tiny hatch. I think Ross takes dumps bigger than that thing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

i test drove one w my sister earlier this summer. i think its a good little car. when you are used to a 240hp V6 manual car, i can imagine it feeling slow.

No, driving my brother's/father's civics after driving my car seem slow. The Civics seemed like driving a race car compared to this thing.

I knew it wasn't going to compare to my car. Without making any comparisons to any other car, this thing just straight up didn't move when I had the pedal all the way down. Did you get to take it on the highway when you test drove it?

I also felt very unsafe, because in MI they had some high winds that day, and any time I came to a clearing such as a field, the car got blown around on the highway like it was a piece of paper.

I think Kates Sentra is rated at 140hp?

It's plenty for that car. Especially with the CVT. Let that thing eat at 6k rpms.

I've only done front brakes, coolant flush, front struts, and welded an exhaust flange back on. It's got 75k miles on it.

i think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. we took it up to 55 on a 4 lane road. ever drive an early 80s econobox? 0-60 in 20 seconds was normal.

tarahs car has the motor smaller than that, something like 120hp and 3 spd auto. almost 60k and it has gotten oil changes, a set of tires, and brakes. sure it isn't fast, but i wouldn't say it is unsafe... i wouldn't call any car built today unsafe due to lack of power.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

I put a cheap set of skinny snow tires on my dumb 2.2l 2003 Pontiac grand am and drove it through every snowstorm we got in the past 2 years. Even used it to flatten the snow in my driveway so my dads truck wouldn't get stuck.

It has more balls and I prefer how it drives compared to a 2011 sentra.

Not trying to push anyone towards a small 10 year old american sedan or anything. The sentra just didn't do it for me. Test drove a 2013 sentra, versa, accent and cruze last year and I by far liked the Cruze the most.

That's what I would want to do. But she wanted 4wd. I managed to talk her down to awd. Were just staring to look. I'm sure when she realizes how expensive stuff is she will compromise more with me.
