THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Youse guys that have messed with exhaust recently: know of a good source for a 3" ID 3 bolt flange? Summit has one or two, but they seem to be super pricy for what they are. The one currently off the Y pipe on my DT headers on the 5.9 looks bad, and I need to redo the exhaust from the headers back, so I figure now would be a good time to replace everything.

I ordered these ones a little over 2 years ago.

They're actually Vibrant flanges that are mild steel, not stainless. Worked well for me.

If you're using 3" pipe, the bolt heads are REAL close to the pipe. I had to use socket cap screws on mine.

Ken, clear out your PM's.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

internet quote of the day:

"They (Land Rovers) may break down, but when they're working, they're far superior to the Bro-mobile that is anything with a Jeep badge on it. I'd rather spend half my life in a service garage than spend ten minutes throwing that stupid ****ing half-wave to other DMB-fanatic douchebags who roll on the highway without doors."

V bands.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I was gonna build a custom exhaust V-bands all the way.

However I started with a variety of broken XJ exhausts, so mine consists of a 92 XJ downpipe, 92 XJ cat with a bung for the downstream O2 welded into it, a second 4 bolt flange of the same style as the cat flange from the 92 XJ, then the muffler/tailpipe.

Sure, the parts aren't reusable, but it's 50 cents worth of TSC grade5 by the pound and a 75 cent flange gasket, which is usually reusable 2-3 times. So I don't really care.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd have probably used v-bands but I wasn't too familiar with them at the time when I swapped the 440 in.

If I ever up the size of the exhaust I'll end up redoing it with v-bands.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This x1000000

Used v-band connections when building the exhaust for my brothers om617-powered yj. 3" straight piped. Plus being one of the few exhaust couplers that is actually reusable helps too

So cut the 3 bolt flange off the Y pipe then use the V bands to throw it all back together?

EDIT, just looked up how they work, and that would make the most sense. Just got to make sure that section of the Y isn't too shitty to weld to. If it is, DT may have a good warranty? Dunno.

It'd take modifying the headers for v bands also, only thing I can think of that'd be a problem is space/clearance

I don't want to mess with the headers if I can avoid it. I'm just looking to mess with the other end of the Y, which is where one of the bigger leaks are. P/S is stupid tight to get the headers through as it is on the 5.9's.

done!

I can't remember if I told anyone I can do things tomorrow/saturday/sunday. Anyone?

Otherwise, I'm going junkyarding and working on the house and jeeps.

edit: I wish I had someone like that around to build motorcycles for me :eyes:
