THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm glad I didn't go with the Nest t-stat, I would've confused the hell outta that poor thing. The Honeywell one is a much better fit for me. Plus I think they're having issues with the latest Nest software as well...

I like the 'acknowledge' feature on their smokes but definitely not worth $100+ per unit to me for that, for the 3 times a year I might set it off by accident. I'll stick with my properly ventilated range and functional kitchen, thanks. :)

My smokes are all interconnected but it was done when the whole house was rewired, so they're physically wired to each other and a breaker in the basement. Not the easiest thing to try and do on an existing installation but I'd take that over wireless any day.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the acknowledge feature is the issue theyre talking about. sometimes the nest smoke is interpreting smoke as a "wave" so it shuts itself down. and as always, wired line voltage or 12v smokes w/battery backup are better than wireless/battery but ya do what ya can. i never installed anything but wired 12v so i'm no help.

smoke alarm discussion makes me wish we were talking about guns (again)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I'm not rewiring shit. The existing ones are all battery operated and that's all we ever had at my parents house. Never had an issue.

I'll probably spring for the ones I listed.

What's everyones opinion on smoke alarms?

One of ours "expired" so I'm thinking about replacing them all as they are all at least 4-5 years old.

I was looking at buying 2 sets of these most likely:

I like the idea that they all link together and set all of them off. I'm not sure I'd wake out of a deep sleep if one in the basement went off for example.

One upstairs hallway, one downstairs hallway, one in the basement, and throw the other one somewhere else.

NH doesn't really have any smoke alarm laws, just that you have one for each floor I think.

If you ever plan on doing any renovation or anything you'll need to pull significant permits/inspections for, you may have to do hardwired anyway. Definitely required for all new construction or anything that needs to be brought up to code.

Although I don't blame you for not wanting to pull a few hundred feet of 14-3 romex. :)

No renovations planned for at least a few years anyway.

I've never had to pull wiring for anything, let alone done any household electrical work.

I know you mentioned NH, but in MA it is one per floor at each landing & one in every bedroom. CO detectors are probably a good thing to have with an oil furnace, so it is nice those are combo units.

Yeah, wireless is fine if you keep up with batteries. I like the wired 'cause it is also tied into my house alarm, but it was easy for me to run it.

Yeah, the NEST stuff is so pricey. If I went with NEST t-stats I'd have over $1200 in just that. No thanks. I have some 7 day programmable Honeywells for $200 total, even that is overkill for us right now since we pretty much just leave everything one "hold" to 58F except the master bedroom.

Have it again on sat.
Why can't we ever do like a Thursday afternoon?

Cool, good to know. Maybe I'll just throw the extra one in our bedroom then.

Yeah I changed the batteries out when we moved in and at my parents house my father would do them once a year just because.
