speaking of Euro trash, anybody have any experience with the older TDI's? I'm thinking of scooping one up from my buddy's parents. It's a 5 spd and has had all the expensive stuff fixed in the last 2 years - injection pump, turb, timing belt, and they have always been meticulous with maintenance. 47 mpg is pretty tempting.

I think the MK3 were known more for rotting out everywhere before the electrical issues got bad. MK4 were more electrical issues first.

I mentioned I was thinking about this to my boss at the shop I'm working at. Coincidentally we've been battling an unexplained no start issue on a 2010 tdi since friday. He picked up a large hammer and threatened to smash my genitals with it.
