THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm honestly not sure. You find one?

I know the one I bought for parts had one, the one I gutted at Sams had one, and the one I gutted at another pull a part had one. A 94 2500 with 8 lug suspension, a 5.9, and unknown GVW (I can look at the title when I get home), a ~96 2500 with 8 lug suspension, a 5.9, and unknown GVW, and the latest was a 93 D250 with 8 lug suspension (8 lug pass drop 44... never knew dodge did those), a 5.2 (so said the emissions sticker...) and unknown GVW, but I have the VIN if you want to look it up.

I'm sure Colin and Chris know more than I do about this. I have the parts catalogs if you want to look up option codes, though.

Everett's had a 95 or 96 (think it was 2-95 build) 2WD 2500 with 8 lug and a 7500 GVW when I stopped by on Wednesday after work. I did some quick searching on my phone while I was there and I saw something about the NV3500/NV3550 coming on the lower GVW trucks. I was in my nicer work stuff, so I didn't crawl underneath and take a look (although I know this wouldn't have slowed you down).

Almost two years ago to the day was when I started stripping my parts Explorer down. Took another six months after that before I had the frame, body, and drivetrain at my own garage to even begin trying to put stuff together.

If'n I recall correctly, someone else took just about two years exactly before their shakedown run. ;)

'Sup pot? :D
it didnt take any of us 6 months to figure out steering and axle shaft combos, or write questions that could be considered novels, me and Colin will be in buggies before this thing gets on the trails.

I honestly have no idea which ones got the 35 vs 4500, but an older Dodge 4x4 is a W-series not a D-series. D-series were for the 2WD models.

And Dodge was all passenger drop front axles until 94.

I don't have nicer work stuff. :gee:

Easy way to tell:
AX15 is pretty easy to recognize.
NV3550 looks like an AX15. Same midplate, front housing, rear housing. Bolted-on bellhousing. If you look at the shift tower, it is noticeably different from an AX15.
NV3500 looks roughly the same as a 3550, but has a cast-on bellhousing.
NV4500 has a giant cast iron housing with a PTO port on each side and a separate tailhousing/4x4 adapter... aluminum factory, iron aftermarket and maybe some factory? Unsure.

Huh, I know it was 4x4 since I pulled the tcase off the transmission myself. I didn't know about the W vs D thing, always wondered that... I could have sworn it said D250 on the fender or the junkyard's listing. Either it or me is wrong.

I knew it was all pass drop, but I never knew they used 8 lug 44s. Would make a decent 3/4 ton 'yota/chevy donor I guess.

Did it have a shifter? If not then its a NV3500 that I stole the shifter off of. I THINK only the 5.9 got the nv4500 in the 2nd gens.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Had a shifter on it, it was a dark green truck.

If you go there between 8 and 5 M-F I can run the VIN and get you all the info you need.

Looking up a '97 BR (Standard Cab Ram 1500, 2500, 3500):
The NV3500 was behind the 3.9L and 5.2L
The NV4500 was behind the 5.9L Gas, 8.0L Gas, and 5.9L Diesel Engines.

Same goes with the BE Ram (Quad/Club Cab Ram 1500, 2500, 3500).

Other years may be different.

To add to this... the NV4500 for the EW0 (8.0) and ET0 (Cummins) engine uses the same input/output shafts, tailhousing, and bellhousing, while the one for the EM0 (5.9) is different. The difference in the transmission order code is that a 5.9 V8 NV4500 is DDP while an 8.0/CTD NV4500 is DDX.

For some stupid reason (well, it's a smart one, but it still seems illogical) the cast iron magnum V10 and the Cummins share a bellhousing pattern, while the Viper alloy V10 shares a bellhousing pattern with the 5.2/5.9/3.9/3.7/4.7/2.8 CRD. Reportedly, anyways. Even though both V10s are originally based off the 5.9.

This really annoys me because one of my stupid dreams is to put a viper V10 in a comanche with working 4x4. So I'd need the engine from a viper and the transmission from a V8 5 speed 2500/3500, because the bellhousings and transmissions are different between the viper and the pickup. Unless I wanted to settle for a truck V10.

This is retarded because you can make more power easily with LSx, but a V10 is 2-3" shorter than a 4.0 and I can't get the idea out of my head.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Almost did a Scott on a jetta, barley stopped in time, did learn the truck will lock up all 4 on dry pavement though

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

They don't have to run or drive if you inherit them, but you're required to destroy an axleshaft with a bad ujoint in your driveway if you want to call it your DD.
