THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

looks like i need to do some manifold homework...

but im thinking, apparently these cast STEEL gm manifolds MIG weld pretty easily mayhaps I can scoot the flange more towards center without it looking too hack?

I bet that would work, and not take long. Another plus, If it doesn't work what do you have to lose?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Fix the rear bumpstops and bolt in shocks
Brace driver's side door bar and make passenger side
Mount window nets (should be getting mounts tomorrow night)
Mount/wire horn
Build rear bumper extension (just 2x2x.250 slid into receiver tube, extended out 6-8 inches, dropped 3-4 inches, then a straight 2x2 bar across)
Mount hi-lift
Mount spare tire

That's pretty much it.

Maybe I'll stop by Wednesday or Thursday night and help you finish up. Doosun's been calling her work for the past week and not getting an answer but if I have no reason to go that would suck dink too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone know where I can buy replacement intermediate steering shaft ujoints without having to buy the whole goddamn shaft? I'm in no mood to pay $160 for a whole shaft when I blow up good-condition junkyard ones every 6 months and never kill anything except the ujoints.

I have been all over the internet looking for them and everything I find is either "buy the dealer part for $300" or "buy the aftermarket part for $160" or "buy these tractor PTO ujoints and hack something together for yer muddin truck :gee:" and none of those is really very helpful.

Did you try covering them with WD40 and just hammering the caps in a little towards the trunnion? I had one that just loosened up and that worked better than nothing. It seems like a pretty Ken Stein kosher solution.

Thats my train of thought right now.

The internets say the welds will eventually crack no matter what. but these manifolds all eventually crack anyway.

If I can get a year out of it and when it does fail it doesn't completely separate at once Id be a happy camper.

Pre and post heat of course

just get rag joints dude.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

why are you going through so many to begin with
Because I drive like an idiot/maniac offroad. And I'm not willing to stop that to make them last longer.

Believe me, I did that on the last one I blew up (took it out, soaked in WD40, swiveled it full range of motion in each direction till it turned freely, soaked in WD40 again, reinstalled.) It worked for a while, but then started binding up and popping which is really not something I like in my steering, so I replaced it.

pretend I'm a retard and tell me how the hell I retrofit a rag joint into this thing and I will.

how the hell are you blowing them up so often? Mine has 273k on it and no play whatsoever. There must be a reason why they keep failing on your truck

nevermind i'm a slow poster today

The bottom half of a lot of chevys, IIRC astro vans and similar have the same splined end as a cherokee. They're also completely encapsulated with a rubber boot, so they stay nice. You could pull one and weld it to your cherokee shaft. Another Ken Stein Kosher solution.

Luck of the draw too, I've had ones that didn't need to be touched and others that were sloppy butt with less mileage.

a lower j10 steering shaft has a rag joint and will fart right into place inside an xj shaft.

I did the complete opposite though because rag joints are dumber than u joints.

I don't know that I trust my welds to hold something as important as a steering shaft together.

I might just keep buying junkyard ones for $10-20 and suck it up. I'm really just tired of them wearing out so fast because I hate screwing around with installing another one every time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

agreed rag joints are dumber than ujoints. Tons of people with chevys grab XJ steering shafts as an upgrade

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Maybe if I leave work late. Is there anything to look at around 4:30 or does everyone show up later?

thats like primetime. people start showing up around 2 or 3 and roll in all night long.

Well i chopped it all up and tacked it where I want it right now. Just need to bevel it and make some filler pieces now for the big gaping hole. I'll let ya know how I make out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My username will be black for the first time in about 6 years tomorrow.
Boo! Lame. You need to come around more.
I think I might've just bought a house.
Sweet!

Move-in ready, completely renovated ground-to-roof in 2010, 2.5 car detached garage built 5 years ago, 130 x 220 lot size.

I have a short list of improvements I wanna do (pave driveway, pour a new slab in the basement, add a half-bath on the first floor) but it's all good to go otherwise.
Nice! Pictures?
How big is the garage (footage) wise?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I do. Its not done yet, I had been messing with the suspension for a while but have put it to the side for now
