Finally have someone interested in the jeep and the CEL came back on and now the pinion bearings on its way out. I have the worst luck ever

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Also, Sam, $400 5.3 and strap some dumb shit to it. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_1109_stock_gm_ls_engine_big_bang_theory/

Cliff notes: They made over 1200hp with 26psi of boost, stock bottom end, over 60 dyno pulls, many back to back and a majority over 1000hp. It didn't really do anything to the motor, just had an ignition system failure.

Then they pulled it apart to find out what, if anything, was damaged and discovered that it was a 4.8, not a 5.3. Over 4hp/ci

I think a stock bottom end 5.3 would live goddamn near forever at 500hp or below. I'm pulling that completely out of my ass, but it survived 1000+hp for quite a few pulls...

Also, if you need a hand with wiring let me know, I live for that shit. I have a mopar magnum 3.9 v6 swap into a 91 toyota pickup coming up soon but that's about it aside from job hunting and fixing the house. Last swap was Billy's old 4.0 into an 87 YJ with a carb and after replacing a single fuse it fired right up with the custom spliced harness I threw together for it.

That's a great article. Looked like it would have lived reliably at 7-800 horse too. Got to love them pushing it until it blew up.

Why in the **** does someone want a 3.9 in a Toyota?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's been my experience that a certain amount of deviance from normalcy is required to get an engineering job. :anon:

indeed! :eyes:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Its better than a 3vze (stock motor, known for unreliability and maintenance issues), fits mostly in the stock space without hacking it up (per our measurements), is a decent 25-30% power/torque gain, and can be had all day long for under 400 complete w/harness accessories and ECU at the nearest you-pull. Should be interesting to swap.

Why not go with a Toyota 3.4?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Can't find one for cheap in good shape around here - every 5vzfe is either over 1k or junk from what I have seen, and the owner can't find one either. 3.9s on the other hand are everywhere.

What kind of adapter do you need to attach it to the Toyota transmission or is that getting swapped as well?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

We'll see. Got some ideas we think will work... he works in a cutter grinding and machine shop so it'll work somehow.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

We're throwing it together in the other end of the machine shop, since it has a chainfall hanging from rollers on an ibeam. Also because I am a bitch according to Colin :spin1:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Slight hicccup in our day. Repaired by pano's-all is well in the world.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My post's validity has now been confirmed by colin.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Unless it was just defective I'd simply upgrade em. What's the part number for the stock driver?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think its something i did. I had 12v going to the injectors when I turn the kill switch on.

If the ecu is off and injectors pull the 12v, the drivers fry.

For some crazy reason my boss won't let me throw out a fax machine, two CRT monitors, and two PC towers (one is a P4, the other a P3), and a 13" black and white cctv monitor. Not one of those items is newer than 7 years old. I keep moving them so they're more and more in the way of everyone.
