THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Lol. This is just for the approval to purchase a handgun, so I can sit in my house and look at it.

New Jersey is a May-Issue state, and issues permits to residents and non-residents. An applicant typically must demonstrate the presence of a "clear and imminent threat to his or her life" before being granted a concealed carry permit in New Jersey. Out of a population of 8,000,000 people there are less than 1,000 handgun carry permits in the state (including armed professionals other than law enforcement officers). As a result, New Jersey is effectively No-Issue.

The only firearms that can actually be used on public land, for hunting or recreation, are shotguns, .22, or muzzleloader. No centerfire rounds at all. So to fire a handgun, or any kind of rifle (aside from a .22), I either have to go to a private range or a civilian range on one of the military bases.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well that sucks.

At least I can carry my handgun. I may not be able to shoot it anywhere outside of a range but I can carry it (as long as no one sees it). Guess that's better than nothing.

That sucks Chris!

Stays with me almost everyday. If not my sig I have a .357 snubby that resides on my hip.

Thats nuts with the land. So if you own 300 acres you can't shoot on your land unless it's a range?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Firearms discharge laws vary by local ordinance, but even as a farmer who wishes to hunt his own land for the purposes of pest or population control, the only permits you can apply for are shotgun or muzzleloader, or .22 for chucks & squirrels. The only legal places to discharge a handgun or centerfire rifle are private ranges whether you've got the room on your land or not.

In my case I've got no neighbors in any direction and a good couple hundred feet of woods behind my house, but because firearms discharge is prohibited in my town, I can't sit on my back porch and recreationally shoot a .22.

There's a good range for .22 and slug/muzzleloader at one of the WMA's about an hour from me...they used to have a skeet area as well but that closed about two years ago. Not sure where the closest public trap & skeet area is now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

First and only time I'll ever say this. I'm happy I live in mass in this case. When my grandfather passed my father and I were left about 180 acres. I have a blast out there. Ar-15's, a couple .308's and various hand guns. When and if the local pd eventually find where I'm at ( I always call ahead and tell them we have people on land and will be shooting) they just peep what we have for hardware and leave us be.

226? What round? Any problems?

The best grouping I've ever had was with a .40 P229, which is probably what I'll go with on this permit unless something else comes along that I like better.

edit: however I've never shot one with 9mm. Should probably see if the shop by me has that before committing to anything...

Mine is primarily chambered in .357sig, I also have the .40 barrel for plinking. I had one in my last department in .40 and everyone loved them as a duty firearm, and never really had any issues with them. I got about 4,000 rounds through my personal exeter built sig and only issue i had is when I shot some cheap cheap cheap reloads. (few jams and a slam fire)

I don't know why people knock the exeter built sig stuff, I like that I can drive to where it's built and have them work on my hardware right there as I wait or can get factory accessories fairly easy. I also heard the machine isn't up to par but in both my p226's and my 556 rifle I feel the fit and finish were top notch.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've hated every .40 I've ever shot, every time. Don't know why

what you shoot in a .40 Travis? I can't stand the M&P's we carry now. But it makes sense, for every sig P226 the state bought we can purchase two M&P .40's with mags.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Glock 22, compact M&P (anthony's), couple of full size XDs
