Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so after work today i slapped the PS line on the jeep and bled it, i must have knocked the steering shaft when there was nothing connected to it bc now i airbag light is on and my turn signal wont signal left. XXXXed the clockspring didnt i? also, my impact took a dump and i couldnt get the pitman arm on or swap wheels. but i went to home depot and they took my beat up 4 year old husky pro impact and gave me a new one no questions asked.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Does your horn work? You may or may not have XXXXed the clock spring, but unless you rotated the steering wheel like 5 times around without anything on there, then you shouldn't have busted it.

And the turn signal is completely unrelated to the clock spring. Take that switch out, take it apart, sand down the terminals, put some dielectric grease on there, slap it back together, and watch it work.

Is this what I'm like when I'm being over dramatic? :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well then, it sounds like you have a bad clock spring. Cruise won't work either.

And no, the turn signal is completely independent of the clock spring. The clock spring is a giant contact that is able to twist around without breaking (under normal use) when the steering wheel is cycled, so that power can go to the accessories that are on the wheel. i.e. the cruise, horn and airbag. Turn signals don't rotate.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Having taken apart and fixed turn signal switches on 3 different Jeeps, and haven removed a clock spring and disassembled a steering column from a Jeep before, trust me I actually know what I'm talking about this time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Brought my rotors and grease inside so I can build the outers in my warm basement, dropped the rotor on the floor and bent the hub. Fun stuff!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

To be fair, I probably would've been carrying the other rotor, and dropped it on the grease and made it explode everywhere :gee:

Me and Briana got pre-qualified to buy a house, we're gonna start looking pretty soon. Should be fun. for those who have houses, anything to look out for/watch for?

sucks. I can probably grab you one for like 10 or 20 bucks next weekend. Remind me, ill bring it to nyc next week.

clocksprings on xjs are a mix. 95/96 ones have a slip ring contact for the horn, and if they are a cruise equipped one also have a coiled up ribbon cable for the cruise wiring, it tears off at one end if you turn the wheel too far one way by putting the steering shaft in with the box and/or clockspring not centered.

97-01 ones are 100% coiled ribbon cable, no slip rings. Turn em too far or set off the airbag and they're XXXXed.

Check the deed history for mistakes, HOA covenants, and other issues, hire a good real estate attorney if your banks won't act for you as well for a small amount, pre inspect the place yourself, hire a good inspector after it passes your inspection. If you want me to take a look at a place before an actual inspector let me know, I've learned what to look for by either finding it on a house I saw, or finding it on a house I bought...

Oh, and be very critical (for valid reasons) of houses you are looking at especially if the sellers agent is present. If you look like an easy sell or already are deciding what furniture goes where they will take you for all you are worth. Keep your mouth shut and judge the property quietly, then decide what to do after. It is really easy to get carried away. I also looked at houses from the outside before getting my agent involved, it saved a lot of her time as I was able to cross probably 50% off the list by driving by or walking around the yard for 5 minutes. That is after crossing 5-10% off the list with a few minutes spent on the registry of deeds site, looking through title paperwork.

I was carrying it all at once. I put the box of rotors on a computer chair and went to put the grease by the boiler to warm up, then i heard a bang. Turned around to see everything on the floor.

Qft. Im going to order a hub from advanced and then return mine.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wow, you must have bought some shitty hubs if they bent from falling off a computer chair. You sure the actual hub is bent and it just hasn't come unseated from the rotor?
