Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I bet you can get all the free tires you need for it. And you're going to need them, at least for the front.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yep.

no point to radar detectors, don't drive ridiculously fast, and don't go more than 10 over the limit unless you know the area really well.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Valentine 1 or go home.

I have done quite a bit of research and the Redline has actually outperformed the V1 in many (most) tests other than rear detection which isn't that big of a deal. I would take the redline over the V1 at this point.

I used to be debating between the V1 and the passport 9500ix (which my boss got and loves). I was debating between the better performance of the V1 or the silence of the 9500ix. The redline has better performance than the V1 while simultaneously reducing the false alerts a bit so that's best of both worlds. I was leaning towards the V1 until passport released the redline, then I gave the redline a while to work out the bugs and it seems damn solid now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

where can i order a long high steer arm from thats closest to the northeast? id get one from parts mike but hes in cali i prob wont get that for a week.. im thinking this is my best option.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I will give you credit that the V1 gives a ton of false alerts. My dad's is almost annoying, but has saved him countless times.

The redline apparently performed better with much fewer false alerts. V1 was the leader for years but from the sounds of it they lost that position now, at least for the time being. Just one link if your bored and want to read

And regarding laser... I agree that a radar detector won't help much against laser on its own but I have heard people comment on Veil which is applied to the headlights and front license plate and will absorb/disperse the laser. Supposedly it can/will give you at least a few seconds between when your detector goes off and when the cop can get a lock on your car. Figure it's cheap enough that I will give it a shot, people I talked to seem to like it.

Longer steering arm with the same pitman arm = not as much steering. Make sure you're not gonna throw your turning radius in the shitter.

Not sure where you'd go for that around here. I'd maybe try Doug @ extreme axle, then Zach @ A to Z, Eric @ EMS, Barry @ Truck Stuff & More.

damn yea... i guess i should drive it first, maybe i can get it to clearance itself :firedevil

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Your best bet is to go slower than I do, know the road, and do some people watching.

If I want to go fast on a road that I don't know that well (i.e. don't know the speed trap locations by heart) I find a ricer or a flatbiller truck and challenge it, or cut it off, or do something to annoy its driver into trying to stay ahead of me. Then I follow him and he either catches the tickets or panic brakes as he goes by any police officer. It's like having your own personal bodyguard and ticket collector...

Also, if you get pulled over anyways and the officer finds out you have a detector in a state you aren't supposed to (and they will find out, especially if your detector went off but didn't save you even though you panic braked, dead giveaway) they are well within the law to confiscate it. I know of several officers who love doing that.

Well I haven't got a speeding citation since 2004 or 2005... I'm pretty good at picking up on cops ahead of me based on other drivers' behavior and/or letting other people get ahead of me before I will speed...

That said, at this point I wouldn't mind having one more layer of protection (the detector). If it saves me once it's worth it even though I really haven't needed it recently.
