THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Adam what website/write-up did you use to root your droid

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wtf, I just called the PD and asked to talk to the guy who does licensing to make sure he is around. Apparently he is still out today even though he said he should be in on Tuesday. :dunno: Maybe he extended his vacation a bit. Looks like I'm not leaving work early today and won't be doing my LTC application until Friday.

If I connect via WiFi instead of 3G or whatever the hell it is, does that still count towards data usage?

No

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Root phone -> Free wifi (or wired) tethering -> awesome!
Why should I root my phone so I can do that if it already came with those capabilies? :D

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

OK, that's what I figured, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some kinda hidden thing involved.

I just threw out a decoy in the gear oil thread. This can go a few different ways...

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This thread is getting awesome.

I was going to say something about that yesterday.

Robertk just keeps proving time and time again, every single time he steps up to a keyboard, why he should have won this award rather than John Edwards.

And one of the reasons why I will NEVER order from him. I'm sorry if he does run a shop, he has to realize that does not make him smarter than everyone else in the world, and he is not the end-all-authority on anything.

Your phone came with free wifi tethering? Mind if I ask what you are talking about? If I can do that w/o rooting I would love to know how :D

In order to use wifi tethering all providers require you to sign up for a service which costs something like $30 per month... on android phones there are a couple apps in the app store that allow you to use wired tethering for free but afaik (something may have changed in the past couple months) you need to root before you can use free Wifi tethering.

:dunno: It works and I'm not getting charged for using it. I only tried it once shortly after I got the phone. Maybe it's not free anymore. I'll try again right now.

Edit: It's still free but I get a warning that reads:

For a limited time, Mobile Hotspot and Mobile Broroadband Connect services are avaliable on this device for no additional charge. When the promotional period expires, you will need to subscribe to the applicable service to continue using this application

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh and I did do a 'proper' break in on my gears followed by changing the fluid but whatever.. I'm pretty sure I understand why people/manufacturers say you should break them in like that but I'm sure it's not the end of the world if you don't follow it, they just have to cover their asses.

I measured the short break in drives in miles rather than minutes since, as mentioned, minutes are kindof an arbitrary unit of measure.

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

WiFi tethering = using the phone as a wireless hotspot that my laptop etc. can connect to, and access the internet via 3G?

yes

edit: Yes but it costs $30 or so per month with most/all providers to do it the 'official' way. On the other hand you can get an app (for free) that allows you to do wired tethering via your USB cable, there are a couple of them out there. Some people say that providers watch your browsing and can get you on breach of contract for enabling free tethering but as long as you don't use absurd amounts of bandwidth (normal web browsing is fine) they won't bug you... at least they never gave me shit about it and I used 3-4 GB in a week at one point.

The app that I have been using for years is PDAnet. You start the app on your phone, start the program on your PC, connect the two, and click 'connect' and you are good to go.

If you root the phone you can enable wifi tethering which should allow you to connect multiple computers/devices to the 3g service via wifi but I haven't found the need for that yet, PDA net works fine for me AND it charges my phone while I'm at it instead of draining the battery by enabling a wifi broadcast.

I will root and get wifi tethering as soon as I am somewhere that multiple people around me need internet.

Makes you want to cancel home internet, huh?

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i did my first set of dana44's the wya yer supposed to break in gears.

the rear ring and pinion lasted like 6 months.
the front lasted almost 5 years

i did my rear 60 the way yer supposed to and so far its been fine for almost 4 years

and my recent 44 gear job i put oil in it and immediatetly bounced it off of rocks and blew a u-joint

i did blacks on 31s locked rear armored up and never had an issue.

never had an issue= a shit ton of rock stacking and pushing of the rig on baby blacks

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not quite...my home internet is fast as shit because I have no neighbors, so i don't split the bandwidth with anybody. Way faster than 3G. Using WiFi on the phone when I'm at home works fantastic.

I will likely delete my cable package and 'landline' service soon though. I haven't even turned the TV on in over a month.

It's weird seeing Chris ask a question that I know the answer to. He's a genius.

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The first time I moved my MJ I did a reverse burnout for a few seconds while standing on the brakes.

My gears are screwed.
So are mine and everyone else that didn't wait "the 20min".
Gosh, you should post what you wrote above.

I can understand letting them cool from the first couple heat cycles, makes sense. But if you can't it isn't going to be the end of the world. If they are getting hot enough to really effect something, then you either have no gear lube or did something wrong.
