THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

In all seriousness, do you think I have anything to worry about getting a few trail runs in before the cage Chris?

It will probably be two runs before NACfest, then 3 days of NACfest wheeling, then I'm not wheeling it again until the cage is done.

My bad, forgot about that.

Hell no. Short of rolling it, WTF is gonna happen in the space of a few trail runs? The only time the extra weight of the axles/tires even comes into play is when you're hangin a tire. Otherwise sure, you might get some body flex, but I doubt it'll turn into Sam's XJ in a matter of days.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the last year or so people with buggies/non street rigs have been getting nailed because all those dirt roads are class VIers. There's all kindsa stuff on all the local forums about it you dingbat :twak:

or something like that.

Yeah I keep in touch with most of the stuff...but mine is registered/insured so I figured I was safe from anything like that.

No problem, it's just this guy on a local club forum is telling me not to even wheel the thing at ALL without a cage.

I was trying to imagine a time when the extra weight comes into play, that makes sense. I don't plan on doing any ridiculous obstacles.

There is also a new Mass ORV law along the same lines.

All ORVs must be currently registered in Massachusetts under MGL c. 90B. New Massachusetts Recreation Vehicle Laws require the display of registration on the left and right side of the vehicle. Additionally, motor vehicles registered under chapter 90 must now also register as a recreation vehicle under chapter 90B (on/off road motorcycles, Jeeps, etc.) when used for recreation or pleasure once they leave a public way as defined in chapter 90. Out of state recreation vehicle registrations are not valid in Massachusetts.

Layered Mopar Performance gasket. Dealer has them for surprisingly cheap.

Summit has it for $39, sound about right?

The compression ratio on my motor is low enough that I could probably run a thinner gasket, but I think I remember seeing somewhere that all the thinner Mopar Performance ones are discontinued and gone.

I've owned it for 11 years and I still don't really know shit about working on "jeeps".

So to continue with this statement. The last 3/8" on the dipstick looked pretty funky, I did overheat the shit out of it while running it hard numerous times, and now it has kind of a low idle speed too. And even after flushing the cooling system a few times, even straight water comes out looking a little funny...granted there's probably still coal junk stuck in there somewhere. Does this sound like a likely candidate for a head gasket?

I'm not gonna get a chance to work on it til next Sunday but I figure I'll drain the oil, and if it looks as bad as I think it will, I'll run it with fresh oil for a while to flush everything, then drain & check it again.

Dusted off the Haynes' manual last night and took a crash course in changing the gasket, doesn't look too bad. Just time consuming.

So you mean that If my Jeep is registered in PA, that it's no good in MA?!

Ugh, why can't it be simple like NH?
I'll have to do some digging I guess.

IDK, I bought the whole top end engine gasket set for around $100. Sounds about right I guess.

IDK, every bad head gasket I've seen on a 4.0L either has oil in the coolant, coolant in the oil, and/or coolant in the exhaust. I think you plan to change the oil and run it for a bit is probably the best bet for now. Head gaskets are not hard, just like you said time consuming.
