THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just ordered a brandy new OE 2 row radiator through my dad. A company he deals with has a sale on mirrors and radiators and I got mine for $68.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think I'm going to be heading up there with a couple friends later in the summer. One of them has a place right near the mountain and we've both wanted to ride that area. It's such a long ride to get up there... He was thinking of trailering it but I'm not sure what I'd do.

I'm definitely going to be riding up to VT this summer (more or less riding to Canada). Going to be one hell of a ride but should be amazing.. I have to be sure that we plan for more than just a weekend trip though since riding up on Friday and home on Sunday would be a bit much. My buddy has a miata so I'm fairly certain that two friends will hop in the miata and I will take the bike.

Speaking of which, may be planning a trip up there in 1.5-2 months. I really gotta get my ass in gear and get my LTC application in ASAP. One friend keeps putting off writing the 3rd letter of recommendation that I need and delaying my application :banghead: I think I might just ask someone else to write one since he doesn't seem to be too eager to get it done.

It's still good to get out there. I should change my oil too, but that's not going to stop me from riding.
Agreed, always good to get out. I probably put 50 miles on it this weekend but don't want to do much more than that since the oil is 6-8 months old. I did buy oil/a filter on Saturday, just haven't had time to change it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, have you looked at those offset Tom Woods joints?

You should be able to get close to 45* with one of those.

Yeah but I have to get a single cardan driveshaft at that point.

The transfer case and axle end bind up at pretty much the same point.

The guys at Tom Woods also said that they wouldn't recommend it for more than 30 mph as it will be vibrating by that point.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Tom Woods gave me two options, as they wouldn't recommend their 42º driveshaft because they didn't think it would fit (1350 CV is large) and I'd also have to buy the D20 flange adapter, as well as the CV assembly is 5.5" long so the pivot point goes further foward aka steeper angle to start with. Though the 1310 CV assembly I measured at 4" long.

He said they could take a standard CV assembly and get it to 35º with some grinding, however they don't like more than 20º consistently (which is where mine would live most of the time). $379 for the whole driveshaft.

Or single card off-set joints at both ends with a u-bolt yoke for the D20. $349 all said and done. But again, they don't like high speeds and now I have custom $50 u-joints if I ever break one.

What's wrong with a single cardan? I ran that for over 2 years on my front shaft because I couldn't get enough angle out of the 1310 CV. I only recently changed back to the CV because I have an inch or two less droop with the coilovers than I had with the 5125's.

Maybe see if you can just run the transfer case side of Jess's Dana 20 kit? The axle end should be easier to fudge with a deeper yoke and some grinding.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wasn't saying single w/offset joint...single with flange & toyota joint at the t-case side, single 1310 or 1410 at the axle side with a deeper & ground yoke.

Although the 'economical' thing is probably just to buy two offset joints and see how bad it really is.

I know my front t-case u-joint angle is bad, it's been a trouble spot on the truck since the day I built it. I consider two new u-joints to be a standard part of race prep at this point.

I've probably bought enough yokes/CV parts/u-joints to have paid for a bling shaft at this point, but no one is going to make me a bling shaft with 1.75" OD. I'm fine with that.

Your issue sounds EXACTLY like mine.

My front t-case u-joint angle is terrible, and I need a small OD driveshaft to be able to squeeze by the clutch throwout fork/exhaust.

U-BOLT SYLE CUSTOM DEEP THROAT HIGH ANGLE
1410 Dana 60/70 yoke u-joint style-- $95.00

DEEP THROAT HIGH ANGLE
1410 Dana 20 transfer case (custom made) 10 spline yoke -- $165.00

1350 UJ DEEP THROAT COMPARISON AVAILABLE IN D20 10 SPLINE

Did we look at the same web site?

edit: and forget about a CV at the t-case end, you'll want that additional length and you won't get as much angle out of it anyway without $$$

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

 Yeah I thought you meant they had 1310 CV high clearance yokes.

The only problem I can think of with not running a CV at the t-case end is the driveshaft hitting my crossmember/LCA mount. I'll probably have to notch both of those.

Not a big deal. More of a PITA than anything.

What's the wall thickness of your 1.75" front d-shaft? .250"?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, .250".

I'd call them and see if you can get dimensions for the 1350 deep yoke at the transfer case side; it'll stick out a little further than a normal yoke so that might help your situation.

Problem is nobody makes 1410 tube yokes for a driveshaft that small.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

~1" difference between my current 1310 CV yoke and the 1350 deep throat yoke.

They have 1350 deep throat yokes for D60s as well. So I could do 1350s at both ends.

$140 for each yoke after I return my cores to them. I could only find 1350 tube yokes that fit 1.75" ID tubing.

I'll have to take some measurements tonight/tomorrow. How much angle could I pull off of those? close to 40º? Probably should have asked them that

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my transfer case is making awful noises, sigh.
