Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

There's a couple early 2000s SuperDuty boosters up in Lowell at some truck parts place for <$100.

Might have to go check them out one day next week after work or something. They close at 5 but it's only 20 minutes or so from my work in Burlington.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Is it cool if I post a tech related question here? I sorta stalk this thread for tidbits of info and stuff, and you all seem to be a little more mechanically inclined than I am.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

where are they at?

You might anger the Begster if you post tech in here.

Have at it. What's your question?

Every couple hundred pages we have some kind of tech discussion.

Shoot and I'm sure someone will jump in if they can help.

where are they at?

School Street Truck Parts

I'm thinking we meet up for Pano's afterwards.

make it thursday and you'll likely have yourself a date

Screw you, A-Rod.

Ugh...that's the one day I CAN'T do. I have to present my capstone to a networking SIG to get some feedback.

Any other day you available?

Screw you, A-Rod.

Baseball is unbelievably boring.

The only time it's remotely fun is if you are at a game.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm building a 93 country. I got the Jeep for free, not running. Previous owner believed the head gasket was toasted, so i put a new one in, ported and polished the head, lapped the valves, all that fun stuff.
-New ignition switch
-New neutral safety switch
-New plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
-Cleaned the sensors in the throttle body
-Gapped Plugs and checked firing order 3 times.

It will turn over and start but only at 3,000 rpm or more. It will die if I do not stay on the throttle.

Did I miss something?

I love how you state facts and not your opinion :looney:

How's the battery? I've had a nearly dead battery act like this in more things than just a XJ. If you baby the throttle for a while it might be able to idle on its own. It's worked for me, but that was on my OBDII XJ. Never dealt with OBDI before.

 Thanks for confirming it was fact. :D

x2 with what Anthony said. Check the battery with the XJ off. Should be somewhere around 12.6V. Check it with it running. Should be between 13.5-14.5V IIRC.

My brother had a similar issue. Ended up being the TPS.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I will have to check that when I get out of work tonight at 11pm. Very odd (to me at least) that a low battery would produce these results.

Thank you!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wouldn't think so either but apparently some people have had that problem.

I would think that if it isn't reading 13.5-14.5V while running it could be the alternator.

You can get either one bench tested at an autozone.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It is nerve-racking holding a motor that I just reassembled, at a relatively high rpm for an extended period of time. I have heard stories of ecu's needing to "re-learn" how to idle. Any information I should know about that?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My engine is old, but I've had to do that to it before. I'm not sure if it was a dead battery or brain-dead ECU that caused the problem. After 10-15 minutes of holding my foot on the pedal I was able to let off without it stalling. I don't know why it acted the way I did, but I do know that no ill effects were noticed. I'm not sure what the protocol for this problem is on a freshly rebuilt engine.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Forgot to post this earlier.

The stainless project last night went OK with the C25 gas...kinda dirty and the net result of using shielding gas with that much C02 is that you lose some (or most) of the stainless properties of the weld.

But, here's the project. Should make the first run today...we're expecting close to 170 proof at this point.
