THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i got a old desk thats beat to shit, if your really worried about your bench then dont use it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I bet the bag outta my bench top; it has 1tons sliding on it, direct torch action, hammers, etc. I got a massize 5x10' sheet of some 1/1.25" thick HD particle board that is laminated on both sides. Everyonce in a while I simply cut out a new bench top and put it on. We use it for all the bench tops in the shop too, works pissa and its practically free.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

For the computer guys:

I have this Dynex 802.11g wireless router; I bought it over 2 years ago when I moved into my house, and I basically just set it up on top of the cabinets in the kitchen and haven't looked at it since.

I get home last night and my laptop had dropped the wireless connection. Go downstairs to check the status lights, and the router is completely dark. I unplug/plug it back in and it lights up again, cool. Back upstairs to the laptop and still no connection. Back downstairs to the router, it's dark again. I mess with the plug and it comes back on, so I babysit it for a few minutes, go back upstairs to the laptop, still no connection. Back downstairs to the router, it's dark again. F this, I'm having a beer and going to bed.

(edit: relating to the smartphone discussion from last week. I'm perfectly happy that my reaction is "I'm just gonna go read a book instead of going on the internet tonight" vs. "I wish I had a smartphone so I could go online when my computer craps out." )

Two things:

- In hindsight, remember that the laptop is mobile and I should just bring it downstairs next to the router when troubleshooting instead of going up and down 10 times like a dumbass.

- Should I probably just buy a new router at this point?

Chris, no idea on the router. Sounds odd. Plug loose going into it?

As for Addex, never heard of them. They in stoughton or a different surrounding town?

Doubt it...the thing would stay lit as long as I stood there looking at it, but seemed to shut down as soon as I walked away and tried to connect to it. I hate electronics sometimes. How does something with no moving parts wear out? I understand overheating etc; but I keep my house a little under 60 degrees and it's not like I'm sending gigabytes of data through the damn thing.

Stoughton proper...Maple St? They do something with blown film extrusion.

Your router got tired of gay porn? :dunno:

Just looked where they are. They're in an industrial park that I never drive through. I drive by that area regularly though when meeting Ross/Adam/Carmelo/Jeff at Smokey Bones.

Dust and crap gets in there big time. I bet it's gross inside, even just from sitting.

Which does what? Hampers heat dissipation? Causes transistors to go on strike due to unsanitary working conditions?

It must get pretty exhausting passing electrons back and forth all day long.

As much as I like tinkering, it's junk like that why I went with mechanical engineering. I went on a customer visit in Mountain View, CA a few years ago (right around the corner from the Googleplex, and yes I went and saw it) to go discuss a project with a company that makes solar trackers - the things that move solar panels so they follow the sun. These things literally actuate less than a degree every few minutes (think how slow the sun moves across the sky).

These guys were 99% electronics people - one of 'em was actually responsible for designing the first-generation heads-up display for GM. They were extraordinarily concerned with reliability data for our product as it relates to MTBF (mean time between failure) - common stuff for electronic components.

Long story short, the motor & gearing in their application is rated to run continuously, at full rated load, for about 20,000 hours, at which point it won't even fail - that's the amount of time it'll take for 10% of the bearings to show wear beyond acceptable tolerance. That's over 2 years of continuous run-time. And these solar actuators are running for less than a few minutes per day. Which basically means the mechanical components are going to last forever. They couldn't grasp the fact that our stuff is rated on a very finite mechanical service life, and couldn't understand why I couldn't provide actual data as it related to their application. Yeah, I'm really gonna tie up our test lab for the next 50 years to generate your data...

Sorry, I'm rambling... :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

got a ? guys

was looking at this http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Through-Bumper-Clevis-Mount_p_1784.html, an wondering when i weld in the 2x6 box for my boatside, would it be worth mounting 2 of these on each side? like 1 near the front fender, an 1 near the rear fender on the boatside/rocker?

I'm thinking it could come in handy for off camber situations. those d-ring mounts would give a good place to attach a strap, an thus stopping a roll.

so thoughts?

XXXXing Summit Racing...

They originally listed the estimated ship date for my FI hose (rated for 250 psi) to ship on 04/01. Now they list it as 05/19.

I could get Russell Performance line (5' more) for $30 more. I might just have to go that route.

Bad idea, it's just going to get hung up on stuff.

Two things:

1. This is the first complaint I have ever heard about Summit Racing from one of my friends who purchased something there. That's saying something, because almost all of us have.

2. At least they changed the status of the order when they realized its status. Many other vendors wouldn't do that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not a complaint at all, just annoyed.

And for the record, they didn't notify me. I had to go check my order status and double check the item description to find that out.

No big deal, just annoyed with it. I'll give them a call.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I picked up a 2 person backpacking tent last night on Steepandcheap. Between that and the stove, I've got everything I need for backpacking. I want to go to Maine in August...
