Amen brutha.

Hmm didn't know there were two different styles of water pump for the 4.0's I should probably check into what I have. I didn't realize they were so cheap either, I don't feel so bad wanting to change mine before it craps on me.

Napa lists one and two outlets.

But I didn't put in 4.0. When I did it only lists the 2 outlet pump. Oopsie. And new is the same price as a reman before the $2 core so I deff want the new one.

What year is your XJ? 96?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

94. I know there are a couple styles of water pumps for the 4.0 depending on what vehicle it's in, mostly because some impellers go one way and some go the other way. Mine all have smooth pulleys and an R stamped on the impeller.

Oh, and buy a new water pump outlet tube / heater core tube and plan on replacing it. They like to break or round off when you try and unscrew them and it's like six bucks.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Alljeep has em for $17.13!

I like grease fittings but that's probably just me. What's your reason for hating them, strength reduction from the holes and stress risers?

See attachment - I have a great example less than 2 feet away from me. :D

And that's in a 5-806x (Dana 60 axleshaft joint).

I've heard a particular school of thought that you should always install the joint so the grease fitting is in compression (picture how the yokes are turning; two quarters of the joint are in compression, and two are in tension). It made sense to me at the time...as long as you're driving forward.

(that joint was broken trying to reverse out of a hole  )

really??? weird... my buddy has the bosch that was on my 93 on his g/f's 98, and my friend with a 95 bought it for his cherokee originally and never used it

As far as I know, Joe Peters and others who know way more than me have said this. All mine are the same (91, 96, 98) so I think it might be a RENIX vs OBD or XJ vs TJ/WJ/ZJ/YJ thing.

All harmonic balancers for the 4.0 are grooved-side as far as I know, so you could probably tell the direction of rotation you need by checking whether your WP pulley is grooved or smooth, if I'm not retarded. I've only ever seen smooth WP pulleys on XJs but I haven't worked extensively on a RENIX motor yet.

EDIT: Chris, yeah if I was thinking it through at all when I installed them, I'd put them in compression. I still haven't managed to break one aside from using them wayyyyyyy past the point they should have been replaced. Right now my logic is "toss the damn thing in and go wheeling, a new joint isn't as bad as a gross old joint so good enough!"

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

if i make my coolant go backwards will that free up horsepower?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

spinning the pump backwards will unfortunately just result in no coolant flow at all.

EDIT: this thread has nearly 2 million page views. Even if rendering and sending the page takes 50 milliseconds the server has spent over a day solid working on just this thread.

Bill, what's the place where you get your driveshaft stuff from? I need to get a few more Spicer 1310's...

Call them and the shipping when they calc it is cheaper than what online puts it at.

Without a doubt it does. Also helps stop that pesky thermostat from working correctly.

Which means that since this thread's creation date, 0.133% of the server's uptime has been spent serving this thread. :)
