Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Cleaned about 20 lbs of dirt & leaves out of the XJ tonight.

New fire extinguishers are mounted on quick releases.

Tomorrow I'm gonna get the new cutoff switch from McMaster, so I'll mount that and do the wiring so I'm good to go when the solenoid gets here on Thursday. Also running the wire for the rear amber light.

I'm gonna say screw re-sealing the diffs for now and just top off the oil level for this weekend. After that it's just re-assembling the interior, loading it on the (new) trailer, and finding out what else I missed or can break. :D

This weekend should be fun. Rausch has a 6-mile course they're blocking off for us on saturday and it'll be a really informal thing...I imagine we'll all be trading seats and doing some tuning. My new camera shoots really nice video so I'll try and get some new stuff. That's from 10-1 PM, and we'll just go wheelin' after that. :)

WTF, CT is considering a law that bans all magazines over 10 rounds, with no clause to grandfather anything in. They expect you to turn in anything over 10 rounds. I may actually end up going to Hartford tomorrow, to wait in line to speak.
Damn you cocksuckers to the north and your anti-gun ways, stay in mass

That blows. I hate "progressives" who leave their progressive shithole and make another one.

Just got the 96 home, the damn slip joint in the steering column popped out as far as it could when the box flew off the rail, was a party getting the damn thing back in. Had to use an asston of washers because the bolts were too long and the threads started too far up... drove it home very cautiously and hopefully doing the durango box tomorrow night, if I'm not flat on my back most of the day instead of being at work again.

Good morning folkz

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Rob what thickness is the steel? I'd bet it just has to do with using .025 wire.

When my welds don't have any gas they get porous not brown :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Rob, did you prep the metal first? It doesnt look like you cleaned the mill scale off good enough. General rule of thumb, if its not nice and shiny metal, its gunna weld like crap. Its shouldnt really make a difference what size wire youre using, just confirm you have sufficient gas flow at the gun nozzle too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ill deal with it after work today, did wake up at 4 this morning relizing that i forgot to shut of the valve on the tank, oopsie, still gots 1800 in it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ZOMG Colin, I might make a none park bench bumper if I sell mine. It will even have real d ring tabs that will be up to Bill spec.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've welded over mill scale plenty and never had a problem. I bet he just needs .030 wire.

Mill scale will cause problems. Sometimes it'll weld, sometimes it wont. 1/8" is easily do-able with .023 wire, Ive done 3/16" with it before no problem.

I got in the habit of hanging my helmet over the valve so that way I always remember to shut it off.

x2 thats a great way. We used to get drilled in school about turning off gas and unplugging our machines anytime we left for breaks/lunch/end of day. They would go around and check everyone and we'd get in trouble and have to re-clean the whole shop or something if we did.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah the .023 isn't an issue. Looks like not enough heat and/or too much wire speed.

I think I keep my gas at 20ish...if you go much above that, the turbulent flow actually draws oxygen into the stream of gas leaving the gun and it becomes counterproductive.
