Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah maybe I'll hold off on setting it down on it's weight on Sunday.

I can still build/paint the UCA and trackbar, and get the leaf springs painted/assembled.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Have you been up this way?
Do you know what size the snowbanks are? Even with the warm weather they have only gone down about 2" total.

Also to further pick on you, why didn't you take any pictures of recent progress? You took a pictures of taking a nut off, but not of welding stuff in place? :D

Oh, one more... get some stuff done this weekend (Sun/Mon).
2" is hardly a snowbank. 2' on the other hand migt be a PITA. I think you're mistaken when you say 'up this way'. You and Colin live farther apart than Colin and I do.

I'm convinced that people just have it out for me. I don't reallly like having my DSLR in the garage while I'm grinding and welding and my phone sucks. So no pictures. The picture of an axle being held by a vise was sort of comical in my opinion. It worked, but it wasn't pretty.

I'm hoping to have the engine in (albeit temporarily) this weekend.
dolphin killer :laugh3:
Haha. That makes you a pigeon killer. :spin1:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sure I can... M88 :D

Marines using one as an engine hoist:

Being used as a tank hoist:

I'd take either one though, an M37 with a hoist like that would be awesome.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i pulled the shock and its still legit. its been leaking fluid for like 6 months lol. theres a puddle the size of a coffee can lid on the floor from it lol

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the other day we were talking about ford raptors and gmc all terrain and i said my girlfriends boss bought one

she said she's driven and it was nice.. didnt sound too special

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

engineering software is always clunky as hell but works, because engineers usually suck at designing software. Software written by software people is beautiful, but impossible to use because it has bugs everywhere from all the extra features they threw into it.

I wish that were the case. This was certainly clunky, but I could live with that if it worked. :(

The USB connectivity thing was very repeatable. Like, 6 times in a row repeatable with identical results. Turn the box off and on again, let the computer find it, tell the software to bring the torch online again, run program, 3 lines in it gets bored and just leaves the torch running, and says the USB box disappeared.

For simple stuff it's probably easiest to just manually enter the G-code:

Code:
00 G0 X0.000 Y0.000
10 G1 X2.000 Y0.000 F70.00
20 G1 X2.000 Y2.000
30 G1 X0.000 Y2.000
40 G1 X0.000 Y0.000
50 G0 X2.000 Y0.000
60 END

Will cut out a 2" square at 70 in/min and park the torch 2" ahead of home to start the next part. Not exactly something to teach a computer newbie though.

And yeah, for 1/8" plate we were running very clean cuts at 70 in/min feed rate. Pretty sick.

But with some steel, and some cable, I can have one. Hell, I could probably just pin the Jib off one of the cranes to the bumper.
Does the 5 ton have a winch?

Edit: and if you want to argue the point, I do have the ultimate engine hoist in the back yard

not yet... they're like a thousand bucks, I have a lot of other things to spend money on first. The stock winches for them are like 20 or 30 thousand pound ones.

Yeah, pretty sure that would work.

Who wants to get one of those badass 4wd offroad forklifts the liquidation sites are currently selling off? That'd be the ultimate wheeling and recovery vehicle, well aside from a helicopter I guess.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No, its alot more fun watching you try to stuff my hoist into the back of blairwitch. Anthony should borrow my hoist cause its a NAC whorehoist.

Ya, except that the blairwitch wasn't registered or on the road when I drove to your place with my green Jeep to pick it up that time. And you swung down with my welder to pick it up from me...

:D

I think what Bill meant was "up this way" as in up near him, nothing to do with Colin. And he said the snowbanks have only melted 2", so they are still huge. Also still don't see how the axle held by a vise is comical?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh yea, foa shock mounts goin on the jeep oh yea.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Same...

I am bailing out of work after my 1pm meeting in fact. Gonna get a bit of work done on the house hopefully since it'll be warm. WTF, it's nice thursday/today and then below freezing again for the weekend, and then more @#%#$^#ing snow possibly on Monday?

:flamemad:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Graphite paint and leaf liners?

You and Colin live farther apart than Colin and I do.

And I live closer to Colin then you :moon:

Ya, except that the blairwitch wasn't registered or on the road when I drove to your place with my green Jeep to pick it up that time.

Nope, then it was your old red jeep we loaded it into I think. Either way, it fit pretty nicely.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm fighting with trying to get ntfs-3g installed on my linux machine. I think I'm skirting the edges of Linux Hell. I download one thing because it's dependent on something else that's dependent on something that's...

Dude, I picked up the engine hoist in my green Jeep. The red Jeep was at home in my garage already torn apart. The engine was one of the last few things I took out of my Jeep in my garage, and by the time I did that everything was pretty much already removed from it. Remember, I got there and the kid called saying he didn't want the engine anymore, then right before I left he called back and said he wanted it?

It was most definitely the green Jeep, I had put the 4.5" coils back in for inspection, and when I drove to your house it drove perfectly straight on the highway, I no longer needed 2 hands on the wheel at all times. It was because of that trip that I decided I was going to lower it permanently.
