THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Stop worrying, I bet your D20 will be fine.

But just in case, buy another one (and bring it to NAC fest)

Sort of a tangent to the topic we're on now - How do you plan on installing the new carrier bearings? You guys don't have a press, do you? I bet a lead or brass hammer would work, but I don't know how tight they are.
I've heard good things about freezing the carrier and putting the bearings on the grill, but I'd probably use a press if I had the choice.

Speaking of which, I need to bring my chinese arbor press back to HF for replacement, we busted the crap out of the bolster plate and ram and bent the handle doing some ujoints :roflmao:

I plan on draggin my axles up to Bills, or persuading him to come to my house with his press and giving him something to do since he complains about it all the time.

I have all the other tools, just not a press. I should probably get one soon.

We all know someone with a press, just get it all done with setup bearings then just go press the new bearings on. No big deal.

I don't think I'd go the freezer/grill route.

Greenerd used to make a good arbor press. There's another company but I can't think of the name at the moment. That's just a tool I'd never buy at HF.

A vise works well for doing u-joints too :laugh3:

Ha, good plan.

I want one too but can't decide how big and I'm also not sure where to put it.

That's true.

I wonder (here we go again) if I could press the bearings on with my vise. Does anyone know how tight the press is? (not 'very', but an actual measurement)

Oh yeah, my D70 had spun carrier bearings. They are gross.

yeah... these u-joints were in there pretty good. The press made fairly quick work of them after it got them moving, which required c-clamping it to the "workbench" and using a 3 foot cheater bar on the press handle. Nearly broke the workbench in half :gee:

It actually worked quite nicely, I was pleasantly surprised by my POS press aside from the fact that the ram and base got chewed up a little. I'll probably weld up a ram adapter so I can press one cap out at a time by putting pressure on the opposing trunnions sometime.

It's ok, we all were.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I was a pretty (rusted) jeep owner instead of a mudder

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damn, I can't find the gratuitous pic of me on 31s with my jeep covered in mud... I know I have them at home.

...(and bring it to NAC fest)...
You can not talk about bringing anything to NACFest until you've actually attended yourself. No, attending yourself does not include friends bringing things back and forth that may belong to you. :gag:

:D

No way in heck I'm dragging that thing to your house. You come to me or find some other way. :)
Speaking of which (and funny you bring this up), I got a phone call this morning from a new-found-anti-Chrysler-now-yota-owner that needs a 3rd setup with gears.

I'm sure this works just as well, just be sure to remember to use the wood.
Didn't everyone used to be a mudder...?
Twice. 1st one was just so we could show up to junior prom all muddy 'cause our parents were not going to waste the money on a limo (who does that really? Come on.)
Second was the last time and the reason I dislike water crossings.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm actually pretty close to having the front axle done besides axleshafts/gears.

All I have to do is finish bracing the truss, then coil/shock mounts and trackbar.

I think this weekend I'm gonna finish the rear bumper and maybe get the front coil mounts/truss work finished.
