I probably just haven't seen it.

You can, I did from Summit Machine. A lot of times you have to make a special request for the part though. It just means sacrificing a few degrees of misalignment.

they might be grade 5 shanks and I hope you don't care how the welds look

I hope you're at least going to use 1/4-28 bolts.

I just don't want to drive out to HF to get one.

I checked in that thread on Garage Journal and that one got good reviews, so I'm not afraid of it exploding in my face. I may or may not need it to remove the carrier bearings from my carriers, depending on whethere or not there's a divit to let a puller arm in.

I have hitch inserts for towing but no actual tubes. Walmart sells them also for not too much.

There's that option too.

I want to say no, but I'd be afraid of screwing up the metallurgy of the carrier. Probably not a big deal, but that's where my hesitation would come from.

But just in case, buy another one (and bring it to NAC fest)

Sort of a tangent to the topic we're on now - How do you plan on installing the new carrier bearings? You guys don't have a press, do you? I bet a lead or brass hammer would work, but I don't know how tight they are.
