Then right as I was pulling into work, what pulls out and goes into the base? A black 94-95 XJ on 33's. The thing looked real clean. It made me miss driving mine

Here we go again - not all of us have super powerful mig welders :moon:

And I doubt you even need to worry about what rod you choose.

Grab one and burn it in.

Everyone makes welding to cast out to be some magical form of welding. To me it was friggin cake.

60's are also like the easiet to weld to. Theyre nodular iron so its alot more accepting then say regular cast iron. Cast/forged steel is pretty easy to weld to too.

This is my first ever attempt at TIG'ing a piece to the 60. ZERO prep and nothing special done. It did very well in the hammer test and simply ripped the scrap piece away, the cast and weld were fine, the mild steel failed first.

when i TIG, i dont even bother with filler rod. Looks wicked clean

I got my quote back from ECGS. Turns out the Detroit that I'd need is $630 with discount. At that price, I'm better off just getting a selectable or welding it.

You're welcome.

You have a lot more to buy on top of just axle components, so just keep that in mind. I'd be tempted to weld it in your shoes.
