THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wanted to cryo-treat my brain after trying to make it through that thread...

Yep. Not sayin' I don't have friends who have made it work, and I'd certainly like to make it work someday too...but I barely have enough time & money to deal with my own crap right now.

What vintage is your house? Mine is late 1800's as far as I can tell...the main floor joists in the basement are trees...not just rough-hewn lumber, but actual trees laid across the foundation. Needless to say I have more than a handful of 'helper' poles down there now...

It'd actually be a nice basement to work in...big door to the outside, plenty of outlets everywhere, 230V plug already wired...but by my best guess, it was a dirt floor when the house was built, and somebody somewhere along the line poured a concrete floor without excavating at all. So what used to be a borderline ceiling height is now to the point where I (being all of 5' 6") have to duck underneath the floor joists.

The roof is less than 10 years old though, exterior recently painted, and carpet less than 3 years old when I moved in (although it's white :gag: and covering up a vintage, wide-plank wood floor), it's on about 1.25 acres, and I have no neighbors at all. I'm not doing anything besides basic maintenance though; it's adjacent to a commercial property that the landlord also owns, and said commercial property will likely be expanding in the next 2-3 years. Said landlord also being my father. So I'm renting the house "at cost" basically, still putting money away, while watching various sherriffs sales, foreclosures, and projects in the area.

Works out good for both of us because I keep the property maintained, and he doesn't have to deal with trying to rent something with a finite lifespan to a tenant who'd likely let it go to shit because of that.

Hell, driving my lawn tractor around mowin' the lawn with a cold beer in hand is actually a pleasant experience. :D

Maybe I'm weird, but unless I've been in dire straits in the woods, 'not wiping' after a poop has never crossed my mind.
Mine was supposedly built in 1890. But then again the same person who told me that, told me I had 2 parking spaces in the driveway, so take it with a grain of salt :D

The vertical columns in my basement were trees that got squared off with an adze, but most of the horizontal support beams appear to be sawn dimensional lumber. It's all true-dimension though (i.e. 2x6 is actually 2" x 6" instead of that 1.5" x 5.5" crap we get now.) I am DEFINITELY putting a welder outlet in the basement and another on the back porch.

I'm definitely not going to rush into it, I love being able to do what I want. That being said, my parents have been married almost 30 years now and I don't think I've ever seen one of them stop the other one from doing something. My dad goes out to some boat club every wednesday, has a garage night at our house or a friends house every so often, etc. He's obviously not the majority.

I think the one thing I love about my gf is that she supports everything I do, wants me to take a trip to Utah, doesn't care how many times I go out with friends, etc. etc. Granted we don't live together (an hour apart) but I don't feel obligated to call her/text her every 5 seconds like some of my past ex-gfs who were nutjobs. People have told me that this "wears off" but it's been over a year.

I feel like people use this as an excuse. I haven't sunk almost any money at all into our relationship, and I'm only able to see my girlfriend once, maybe twice a week if we're lucky but we both make the best of it and have never complained.
Damn you, you got real lucky

I've gotten Kate to come wheeling multiple times. I even let her drive and she slammed the rev limiter first time out :D. Hell, I know she'd come out to the garage to work on it with me if I asked her to.

She got the "go-fast" bug just as quickly as I did. After I landed that jump at Raush Creek her first reaction was "can we do that again?!"

That axle didn't stand a chance
... double damn you!

Yeah, that axle was doomed.

So I spelled it wrong twice, what do you want? :)

Reruns on last night so this made me think of:

Haha. A few minutes woman to woman can change all that.
I won't do that to you though. :)
I've got some land to buy and a house to build first so you have time.
I would rather see someone misspell something the same way twice than misspell it once and spell it right a sentence later, or misspell it three times in different ways. Drives me crazy when I see that - at least you're consistent!

Also, achmed the dead terrorist is awesome.

the TCU in a 98 xj is in the passenger footwell in front of the door correct?
on the tranny tunnel under the dash, above the gas pedal.

Who's going to the snow run?
wait what? where? when? snow run?!

crap now I really need to weld that stupid 8.25 up and get that 8.25 from Ross.

I see what you are talking about now and I am going. I have another 1.5 months to procrastinate getting the thing welded, whew.

first post woo! there a point to this thread?
I haven't seen one yet. Consider it a fireside chat type thread but minus the fire and beer (well, most of the time.)

Holy boring story...

Come up with something worthy of a few paragraphs.
unless people decide to give you crap because it's more than 3 lines!!!!!!!!

Took me 25 minutes to unload, carry, and restack the second pallet of shingles. Not too bad.

I'll have to get some pictures of the basement, it's a weird little place. I've been there 2 years and haven't once wanted to venture into the crawlspace. I've also only gone in the attic once, before I moved in. I just know the roof doesn't leak, or at least doesn't leak anywhere visibly. The top floor windows are all knee-level, and the pitch of the roof makes headroom on the second floor a bit of an issue. The dishwasher door seal leaks and drips into the basement. Heating bills blow. Overall I like it though.

If I had a more definite timeline I'd put a lot more into it because I like the property and the house is pretty cool. But, I might be there for the next 3 years, or I might find something perfect on a bank sale next month. It's a nice intermediate step though.

Looks like a floor jack, probably works like one too.

Summit's usually pretty good on shipping (even though that jack has a surcharge), but I'd think you could probably find one local for the same price if not cheaper.

Yeah, not looking forward to heating bills. Fortunately while the walls are down I will be insulating the hell out of the place with the best I can afford - the entire roof is getting vent spacer channel where the vaulted ceilings are located so that I can keep the roof vented while still insulating the second floor.

Some of these extra buttons are scary... if I ever hit that one touch ban and clean with my butt while my phone is in my pocket, people are gonna be pissed. Guess I need to navigate away from NAXJA before pocketing my phone now :eyes:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Jeff is giving my number out to random people again! I got a call from a dude looking for a t-case.
hahaha, I got a call looking for fuel tank J-bolts a while ago. Unfortunately I have XJ ones and he was looking for MJ ones, and MJ ones are just too different to modify XJ ones to fit (I would know, I wanted to.)

I saw no less then three mj's today on my way to lunch, one of which was lifted on like 31's

I've only seen a couple on the road. A light green one with JEEP in purple on the tailgate when I worked at valvoline in 03 or so (I recall it having a VO33 filter instead of a VO45, so it must have been an older one), a black and primer (grey and brown, classy) longbed on 395 near Ryan/Tim/Sam's neck of the woods, a silver one on goldstar blvd in Worcester, and a black one with a plow frame on it on rt1 in Foxboro on the way to your place.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

agreed, but there's also michael jordan and jackson who went by the nickname MJ. I'm sure that's padding the count.
don't forget :greensmok

I'm still waiting to get stopped by the police and questioned/searched on "reasonable suspicion" that I smoke such things, due to my MJ oval sticker :roflmao:
