i would be depressed if i had to say that.

treating the unibody as a wear item is a fairly valid practice... though I'm not sure I would want to do that.

If I could find a clean (read: rust free) MJ every year I could live with that.

I just want a solid platform.

you basically need to build yours for jeepspeed if you want it to last I think.

Good luck getting an MJ frame plated properly... they got that whole special ed "hey spotwelding two pieces of sheetmetal together makes a frame rail right" thing going on. If I was gonna do that I'd chop the whole mess out and replace it with box tubing, I think.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

kit-shmit. i will do no such thing.

.

i replace unibodies more than i replace brake pads

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the sad thing is... I do too... I have replaced the brake pads on one rig, my MJ, and that was only because I couldn't put 2wd pads/rotors from a 91 onto a 4wd axle from a ~92/3. The rest are fine :dunno: though the rotors are getting pretty gross on the 96.

huh? I didn't look at the MJ frame out back very closely but it didn't look that bad. I'm sure the giant "X" crossmember in the middle provides the majority of the strength, but I doubt it will take too much of a beating with leaf springs.

Either way if the back end starts falling apart then I'll do something about it. I'm sure it will last a lot longer than the front.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The back end is probably stronger than I give it credit for. The part I'm dinging is the section right under the cab though - from about the tranny crossmember forward toward the LCA mounts, iirc. Basically they took two pieces of sheetmetal shaped like expanded Zs and spot welded the bottoms together haphazardly, instead of using a single piece of formed sheetmetal like on the XJ frame.

... never thought I'd be saying the XJ frame design was superior to something :wierd:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I lost you on that one.

Mine looked the same as an XJ.

EDIT: Ken, are you talking about the additional layer where the crossmember bolts? XJs have that as well? Just confused here.

Looking at wheeling pics makes me want to wheel so bad.

This sucks.

:(

idea!

buy beater pile of shit xj for like 400 bucks

sawzall the fenders

add 33's

weld rearend.

thrash it.

if it still moves when you are done with it, sell it to some high school kid for what you put into it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So to cover a few things:

Colin - I'll try to take a pic of said supports, but basically cut pieces of alum.

Its spelt Buy not B uy

Ken - I'll be home, swapping battery

I'm also a friend of Bills now, however I didnt expect a response. I was shocked after recieving confirmation. I just wanted facebook to stop asking me to friend him.

Biggest bonehead move I made recently was not taking parts I had for a guy to FC with me. I didnt know if the guy would be there but I knew the parts were going to Dr Custom Werx. I got there and saw Josh which aggravated me that I didnt bring them. Then the guy whose parts they were for won like 6 times during the raffle. I delivered these parts to Troy on Tuesday night basically driving them to the entrance of Swanzey. That was an awesome waste of time & fuel, but at least I did pick up a new fiberglass cap for the back of my truck.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

"beater pile of shit xj" sounds awesome.

Better idea!

tuner for truck - 900 lb ft of torque

leveling kit and sawzall fenders - throw 40s on

weld front/rear

enjoy still awesome gearing and torque.

Cry as I destroy my CTD

:dunno: plan?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill was posting that for ****s and giggles.
I was, unless someone wants to buy me one.
It would be neat to tell people my diff holds more fluid than there entire engine, which in some cases is already true. :)
Google nissan titan rear axle and I'm sure you'll get a whole bunch of reports of failures.
Which is why truck manufacturing should be left to the big boys, Dodge, Chevy, Ford. That's it. (someone is going to edit this post and subtract a name or too)

Just tube it all out abd be done with it.

You'll hate me now for saying it, but thank me later.

Again, never using the site to know... it asks you to friend people? Weird!
