THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What will make a good cheap power steering cooler?
Taurus SHO's had a power steering cooler that I imagine would work. It might not be big enough though. Why not use a tranny cooler?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just looking for ideas. Ideally I'd keep it on the small side. I don't need it to be a power steering cooler per se. That's why I worded it "what would make a good power steering cooler."

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yea, basically any tranny cooler from a car/small truck/van/suv. as long as you can make it fit and its got 3/8" barb ends.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just realized I have no tools. Since I don't drive around with them anymore.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've "heard" a stacked plate cooler isn't ideal for power steering as it restricts the flow. Power steering runs at a much higher pressure than a transmission.

:dunno: Not sure how true it is.

I've heard the same thing as well. That's why I'm looking for a smaller one. The bigger they get the more they slow the fluid(i think). Either way I have to be careful since I'll have hydroboost and hydroassist down the road. My steering and brakes will depend upon my fluid flow.

hmmm

i think i run a stacked plate cooler for my steering.

but its run on the return side which sees very little pressure. hell. it uses barb fittings, it can't be so much pressure that a stacked plate cooler restricts it.

Do people run PS coolers on the return line? If so, it would be under very little pressure. What does running at higher pressure have to do with efficiency? As long as the fluid moves through the cooler it will get cooled. What makes a stacked cooler flow restrictive?

That makes sense because flowing the same amount through a larger opening decreases flow speed which decreases Reynold's # (measure of turbulence). In any sort of heat transfer device you want a turbulent flow, so smaller makes sense.

This.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And that also caught my eye since I have been looking for a stick welder.

how much you wanna spend? Ive got a near-new one sitting in my cellar.

x2 ive heard that too and its seems like a decent/believable reason why. you dont really need much for a PS system so a small tube & fin would work fine. Also, arent most stack plate designed coolers large and made for intense cooling. most PS coolers ive seen are jsut a simple 2 row tube & fin thats only a couple of inches tall.

I bet one of those factory xj aux tranny coolers would be a perfect fit for a PS cooler.

That's the first thing I thought of too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm looking for cheap so I'm about to stop by my work and pick up tools and go to everett's. I'll end up grabbing whatever 2 row cooler with 3/8 lines coming out of it. Radiator is supposed to be in today. I've only got a handful of things to do to get to hear the Honcho roar it's angry rage of awesomeness. I'm also grabbing junkyard progressive bumpstops. Screw paying over $50 for something that is in ever s10 blazer on earth and comes with mounting cans.

Was going to say exactly this. Run it on the return side and you won't have any problems.

I've got a couple I pulled out of ZJs or WJs that look like they'd be decent, as well as one I pulled out of an Exploder, that one is nearly as big as an xbox 360 power adapter.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Also JCR sucks. I've tried to order d ring tabs twice and their dumb checkout wont work.

Well I guess price point would depend how good/strong it is. I mean the one in that link is $75 and I shot him an email earlier to get details on it. Not sure exactly what he has but will find out. lmk what you want for yours though :dunno:

edit: and I hate how all welding shops seem to close at 4 or 4:30. So much for getting O2 today, my father was in Boston with my sister for her broken ankle appointment and my buddy who was around town got stuck babysitting his kid cousin late so sounds like he won't be able to make it to the store for me either :smsoap: Guess I will see if my buddy can stop out for me tomorrow if he isn't doing anything.

Argh, do want. 15 parking spaces should be enough for most of the cars I want, if not I got enough yard space for the rest of the junkers  And it's perfect... from the looks of it the back yard loops around and half it is hidden from the road and house by trees... perfect place for an XJ graveyard :eyes:
