I've been contemplating dumping my ID and laptop on my bosses' desk all day. I have no idea what I would do if I did that, but it probably won't even be computer industry, I am sick and tired of sitting in a cube and dealing with bureaucracy.

Kyle, Worcester's completely the wrong direction, but if you want to head out here I can drive you down, then you have about an hour to sober up on the way back.

When I was in middle school I would take apart old computers and fix them. I would read everything I could get my hands on about computers. I ran linux on all the old pieces of junk I fixed and loved doing networking stuff. The only classes I ever got an A in highschool were networking classes that I didn't have to study for. I though for sure I would be going into the field. The summer I graduated I met a guy that let me work under him. I thought it was going to be awesome. I HATED it. Not to mention his eyes were bloodshot, he never slept and made crap money.

Now, I rarely mention I know anything about computers and try my hardest to unlearn any knowledge of what I've learned about them. I hate computers with my entire soul and want nothing to do with having to maintain them ESPECIALLY in a business setting.

Been there, done that...

Really I can't stand bureaucracy and watching idiotic decisions and waste. I spent the last 6 months fighting against another team (well, another subteam of the same team I am in a subteam of) trying to get them to do their job using the code that I spent the year previous writing. The end result? They complained loudly enough, and stonewalled enough, that the managers deemed the process too inefficient to use and as a result about a year of my work, damn good code, was dumped as a result of the other subteam's laziness. Hasn't done anything to motivate me and has done an awful lot to make me want to get the hell out of here.

I still enjoy computer engineering and stuff like that a LOT, the problem is, this job isn't (and never really has been) what I really really love to do. It's close, and everything was great till I realized that bureaucracy sucks and people who complain the right way don't have to work while I pick up the slack, and now I pretty much just want out.

As for unlearning, that's something I'll never do. I hate using any time of technology or machine that I don't understand fully at its most basic level and I'll probably never stop picking up new hobbies and things to learn, learning everything I want to know about them, and then moving to something I don't understand yet.

Well I wanted to get the Jeep and swap in a trans (not really much of a project) and then DD the Jeep and sell the Altima. Back to shopping. I really just want to get something cheap and reliable so i can stop paying for a car monthly.

Been there, done that... Spent college setting up clusters and building networks with old junk scavenged from the recycling dumpsters in the CS and ECE buildings.

ken, one of my favorite quotes:

"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats." - Howard Aiken, IBM engineer

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So to get in for free tonight, what do we do, just walk up to the door and mention Anthony's name? And is there a specific meeting place once inside or what? Never been there

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

(a) yes
(b) look for a bunch of us standing around looking awkward

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so after driving a lifted jeep with big tires from 17-21, i finally got pulled over today for my tires sticking out too far. so now i gotta get some flares on in 20 days and get inspected and all that shat.

speaking of, ken, do you still have those tj flares?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

is that the same set of tracks that run right by the old NSH next to the river?
Same tracks, just about 7-8 miles north. It really is amazing to see the heavy equipment that shows up within a few hours of the wreck, cat D9 dozers, cranes, and all kinds of other equipment.

Where did you get pulled over?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Where did you get pulled over?

off of route six on maple street in danielson

the same route ive been traveling to and from work since 2005 and they choose to pull me over now

i thought people getting pulled over in CT for running flareless was urban legend

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

State trooper or town cop?
I have never had a problem, and I had no flares at all for about a year, and only front flares for the last few months
