THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I agree, it's such a waste of time

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I might be picking up a D70 for $150.

Hopefully it works out.
awesome. i hope you can lift it high enough to get into the bed of your truck :gee:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just love it when I walk into work a little late and everyone (literally everyone in my company, its pretty small company) is in a meeting in a conference with a glass door, and I have to walk past that door.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

scott that "truck" is nuts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That sucks.

Do you have set hours?

I guess so, standard 8-5.

I don't really care, not like I'm supposed to be in the meeting or anything.

A ton of people show up not exactly at 8. I know my boss shows up about 10 every day.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh wasn't sure.

I was going to say, as long as I get my 9 hours in, it really doesn't matter. Some people work from home every now and then as well. I'd love to do that, though probably wouldn't get much done.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'm allowed to telecommute after 1 year here. i would, but it's hard to get much done telecommuting with the work i do.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I literally can get just as much done telecommuting as I can working from the office. All my work is done on compute clusters I access via VNC/SSH or on prototype systems I access via VNC+SSH+remote desktop, so I sign into the VPN and have the same access I normally do... heck, I sometimes get more done working from home because people don't drop by my cube to ask me strange technical questions.

And there's nothing quite as awesome as lounging about on my couch using my projector as a second monitor to debug while drinking beer. Best workday ever, usually.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah there is no way that I can work from home. It's kinda hard to stock a shelf while sitting on the couch. No interweb stocking for me. But I do show up about 20 minutes late everyday and I will occaisionally "forget" to punch out so I will get payed for my time that I'm scheduled.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i ssh into a lot of stuff, but not everything. and our security is a bit different than yours, as you well remember ken.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah... definitely. Your security is pretty hardcore and involves people with guns, mine I just have to have my badge with me when I walk through the gate in front of the rent-a-cop :gee:

EDIT: damn, yet another use for brake cleaner... I love this stuff. I just almost completely removed some hardcore grease/oil stains from a few pairs of jeans by soaking them with brake cleaner before throwing them in the wash. Probably not the best for the washing machine, but it cost me almost nothing...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Rawr! My gears will be here on Tuesday and I don't have a DD-able car so I can take the Jeep off the road for a week/weekend

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My boss got in early today (99% of the time I am in before him, today I showed up at 8:10-8:15 and he was already in). I only showed up later than usual because my alarm clock reset due to a power surge or something last night and luckily I managed to wake myself up only 10 min later than I normally get up. He didn't give a damn, so it worked out.

And I would love to telecommute once in a while, most of the work I do is email and documentation, etc. I mean yeah I might get one or 2 things to do per day that I need to be on site for (or like this wk I have have a bunch of stuff waiting to get done by Friday) but nothing I need to be on site daily for. Oh well, coming in gets me out of hte house. I don't mind it that much. Would be nicer if I didn't have a 45 min commute though
