THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill, I realized something after talking with you today about seats. I've driven '97+ Limited XJ's with the leather and power seats. The power seat base is just too high, it feels all weird and feels like my head is right here at the roof.
you're like 5'8" :confused1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the power seat base is any higher than the manual base on any Cherokee (97+ or not). If Ken didn't have my old power seats I'd measure to be sure. However, Angel's has leather non-power and I feel like I have the same headroom I had in mine with cloth and power. Plus you've got a fancy welder now, cut 1/2" out of the base and weld it back up. I sure would rather grab some 97+ seats for $50-75 bucks than drop $400+.

Power seats aren't a big deal to me. I mean how often do you adjust the seat where you can't just pull a lever and scooch?

Also just ordered this.

NICE!
didnt realize there was a better one to get. i mean ive never had a problem strengthwise with a 153. Jeff also has them in stock and for a smokin price, so its a no brainer for me to just use them.
The difference in cost is like $3... haha.

:shhh: im awaiting a return phone call this morning followed by playing with numbers. if i get a big number, i might have to take my shoes off and use my toes to count.

There is a definitely a height difference. I was looking at '97+ limiteds for a while last year. The few that I test drove, I could definitely notice a height difference between them and mine. (it helps when you show up in an XJ without power seats, and then immediately get into an XJ with power seats).

I spoke with Adam last night for a while too. We both agreed that the power was not really necessary for that exact reason, I set the seat to where I want it once, then leave it. But, if I'm going to put new seats in that aren't those fancy expensive ones, I want power to go along with the whole "luxury" edition of the car.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I know for a FACT that 94 and down non-power seats sit a LOT lower than the power seats. I've sat in both (my friend has a '91 limited). I could never own a stock power seat without cutting at LEAST 1/2" out of the base.

Mark, I'd just make sure your seat mount isn't busted like I said. Almost all 94 and down power seat bases have broken spot welds and cause the seat to lean to the driver's side and back. Double check it before you spend the cash.

And I don't want to hear you complain, it's (4) 13mm nuts and the seat is out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh and Ken, the piece of 5/8" round stock that I need is has to be an "L" shape.

About 10.5" long, then a 90* bend, then 3.5" long.

Does that make sense?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This is making me think I may swap the power base off the seat I got from Bill... I come darn close to smacking my head on the ceiling as it is.

With how tall I am it's easy to set everything up - put the seat all the way back, put the steering wheel all the way up, drive.

EDIT: sure, that's easy - need any holes drilled for hitch pin clips or anything? I'll have the drill press sitting right there

Ya, I know, that is why I haven't actually ordered something. I have been meaning to take the seat out, but I haven't had any access to tools for the past couple days. I will be down at my baja thing tonight, so I'll probably grab some wrenches after im done there and take it out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It amazes me how much you guys can talk about seats. Honestly how in depth can get into talking about a pile of dumb cushions. lastara

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken: Nah no holes needed thanks though, definitely appreciated. I probably won't be able to come get it until Friday though.

Mark: The best money spent would be having a small toolbox with you at all times in the back of briarwood. Even though it has less than 100k miles, it's still 20 years old. I'd get some kind of small, simple toolbox from Sears/Home Depot/Lowes.

When my seat bracket was broken it started hurting my back as I was holding myself up to the steering wheel.

Driving 2 hours a day like that sucked. Not very indepth unless you're a tard.

:D

X2. My junkyard bag lives in the back of the MJ, includes my sawzall, metric impact sockets, inverse torx sockets, 12pt sockets SAE+metric, BFH, breaker bar, ratchets, extensions, gearwrenches, allen bits... if I had a spare axle in the back I could probably swap it out on the side of the road instead of calling AAA.

Usually it's just back there because I'm too lazy to carry it up 3 flights of stairs, but it helps to be able to fix stuff at any time also.

I do, I actually have a full craftsman socket set that I carry around, as well as a bag of random stuff like channel locks, etc. I have the bag as well as coolant, oil, and brake fluid in my trunk right now, but I don't have the socket set.

Its just that my socket set was scattered in my garage/little wagon (Ross saw that thing, sweet old school fisher price wagon I was using to tote tools down to the red Jeep), and I never had time to organize it all and grab it before I left. It was late at night, and I was in a rush to get back to Boston so I could get some sleep.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

to paraphrase a friend of mine, grossness of weather * lateness to work = expected units of jeep brokenness

I'm almost 100% positive that the 97+ power seats are the same height as the non-power units. My bet is one of the seats you were sitting in was worn out. There is no way they were designed to be different heights.

When I had the seats out the pass side non-power was the exact height of the driver's power.

To absolutely prove you wrong I'm going to have Ken measure the seats and I will compare them to Angel's non-power. ;)

Ken, yours being the older style you might need that middle brace or fab some up to use the brackets. It won't be hard at all.

 I made a post a while back that a little wagon is a priceless tool. Right now mine is full of stuff including a t-case w/ SYE, bellhousing, 9" parts, and other random crap. Made moving all that sh*t out to my storage tent thing super easy. I love that think. Hijacked it from my kid sisters last year. They aren't getting it back.

I'll have to dig em out of the closet... will try and remember to measure later tonight.

I have a 96 so the floor side of the brackets should be the same, is the seat side of the bracket different on the 96/97-up? I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look it up :dunce:

No worries. Don't dig them out just for Mark. :D

Ahh right, I always think you have a '95. I should've looked at your sig.

I've never had a request for them before...but could get them, I suppose, if anyone asked for them.
