Travis, there is no way im gunna drive slow with you on the way down the PA. im just gunna haul ass without you and get there in 3 hours:D

I doubt I'll tow the red jeep with that ford. Hell I'll probably get "well, I *would* let you, but I mean it's only a half ton blahblahblah" thanks douche

psssh, i was only goin slow cause i know colin didnt wanna go above like 70. the dirtymax will flat out fly on the highway, its soo smooth with the jeep on it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

He bought a 1/2 ton with a plow? :thumbdn:
That's alright. During the first big snowstorm back in December there was a TJ Rubicon plowing the Target parking lot near me.
Man was that parking lot fun to do donuts in. :firedevil

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks again Anthony and Colin (and Travis for being the middle man) for the parts.
Sorry i couldnt meet up with you,Anthony.Stupid work.

any one run trxus radial A/T's before?
Theres a set on craigslist at a decent price im kinda interested in.
Im trying to find a decent tire for the mj, and im pretty sure i want to go 33's, but ideally i would like 35's, with 33's as my street tires.

Buy my MTR's, there a great street/wheelin tire

Yeah I have to pay to fix the stuff on my truck, therefore I choose not to kick it's *** when I'm towing.

I've done 100+ unloaded and it's very smooth, just ask Travis.

:D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Haha ok, you're in southern NH now right?

Why do I seem to be the only one who would rather run a slightly larger AT on the road? Lift it and build it for whatever size tire you want to run on the trail. Then run a slightly larger tire on the road to help with MPGs when cruising on the highway. Not like you need much flex on the highway or the overly deep gearing, and not like you really have to worry about u-joints, not gonna get beat on as hard on road.. That's why I want to find a cheap set of 35-36s for street tires.

Well, if i get nice 35'sI want them to last, so i figured id cheap out on 33's and keep the miles off the good tires, but im not dead set on that route.

Larger tires don't necessarily mean better gas mileage. With the larger tire you increase weight, rolling resistance, drag, etc. It takes more power to get a larger tire rolling, and keep it rolling. Then also braking comes into play, with more braking force required to stop the additional momentum of the larger tire. Also, if you're talking using larger tires on the same size rim, the tire will have more flex to it than a smaller tire. Good for wheeling, not for grip/handling/etc for on road use.

Just some basic explanations to think about...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I understand there are different aspects that will help/hurt fuel economy with reagard to tires (and on top of fuel economy, will help/hurt street/trail performance). But for example my rig: as of this coming week I will have 4.88s and 33s. I doubt going to a 35 would really hurt my fuel economy, in fact I think it would probably help my economy. And I don't really plan on driving the rig much/hard on the street so ideal road handling isn't a priority per say, though i do agree that even if the vehicle won't be pushed hard on the road it should still be able to safely handle itself and get out of the way if needed.

And since I am sure it has been discussed a million times... swapping axle shafts to get 297 u-joints... Do I just have to swap out the shafts themselves or do I have to swap out seals too? I am looking around right now as I want to be sure I am shopping for the right stuff, just figured I would throw it on here while I look. IIRC 95+ XJs had the larger u-joints and all ABS XJs did?

Edit: Just confirmed my years for the most part (96+ had better joints 91-95 with abs had better joints, off by 1 years ). Now I just need to make sure I don't have to change anything else.

just the shafts. And your initial guess was correct. 95+ had them not 96+

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

95 was the start of the 297 joints not 96, keep one set of tires 35's may get you a lil better gas milage but it be a while before they pay for themselfs and you will eat up wheel bearings faster

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sweet, Guess my gut was right. Thanks.

One other thing I saw... one link said 91-95 or so ABS equipped XJs had 297x joints, and also said that later models all had 297/760 joints. I assume that 297 and 760s are interchangeable, probably one was a more HD joint that came with ABS equipped XJs?

I gotta stop ADDing. I kept looking for axle shaft stuff, then thinking of t-case stuff (figure I might as well rebuild the t-case before I install it) and then start trying to find if there is a cheap way to upgrade to a 231HD chain, etc etc etc. Now it's 10 and I think I am going to do the unthinkable and pass out early tonight.

Yeah, but they would look much more badass whenever I show up at a meet and greet and make excuses for why I can't wheel.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I believe the 297's came in all 242's also. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
