god damnit. Another d30 with 4.10s :roflmao:

EDIT: Scott, yes, put in set of 96.5-99.5 shafts and you'll get 760s, you do have to put a new inner seal on the pass side though, and block off the vac disconnect housing to keep junk out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

scott, yes, you can do a vac disconnect. it's really easy too.

-take off disco mechanism
-make new rectangular plate, dirll 4 holes in it to line up with axle
-get axle shaft, sand the length of it to get any rust off, put some grease on it, slide it in
-put your shite back together

I don't realy need the 760s. If I get 760s they are going in the XJ... so looks like I am shopping for a set of 760s.

the MJ needs new shafts so I figure might as well eliminate that vac disconnect thing. Don't really need 760s on that since it will be [mostly] street driven. So I think I will pick up some 760 shafts for teh XJ, then put the XJ shafts in the MJ.

Ken mentioned the inner seal, you mention a rectangular plate. Maybe I just haven't taken a D30 apart in far too long but I have no clue what rectangular plate you are talking about. :dunno:

Edit: And then sheep's talking about seals...

Fine, I guess I will go searching. I just hoped I would get a "yes, they are easy to swap, one comes otu the other goes in" type of answer (though I knew I had to remove and cover the disco mechanism) :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you can replace just the seal at the disco housing. that's what i ran in billy and bump's old axle. worked fine for me and billy. probably better than dremelling out the axle tube and pressing one in there... adam has that and always has leak problems

this is looking from the rear of the xj forward at the back of the pass side UCA mount. make a plate that grabs those 4 bolt holes... or do what billy did and just bolt the vac disco housing back on...

edit: here's another (better) one

Cool thanks. So maybe it was less that "I haven't worked on a D30 in too long" and more that "I have never worked on a vac disconnect D30".

Edit: Though I still don't know what seals you are referring to (to get it to work well, I have a good idea though). Once I get around to doing the swap I may get in touch with you for some advice help if you don't mind. Then again I will probably find all the answers I need through a search or 2

Oh damn, I forgot too. You heading up to lobsters? Could pick the stuff up then. And yeah, The bellhousing would be great. I will throw that on the XJ the next time I do the clutch or transmission and will just find a late model AX-15 with bellhousing for the MJ.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

no, i won't be making it up there... i'll be at the UJ thing on friday. the bellhousing and other parts aren't going anywhere. we'll figure it out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmmmm, I forgot about the UJ thing on Friday. Looks like it will be a better weekend than expected. Thanks for reminding me. I think the bellhousing should fit in my car if you want to bring it with you.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, the bellhousing is small enough. i'll grab it. i won't bother with any of the clunky d30 parts though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What other D30 parts are "clunky"? I thought those would be less clunky and easier to fit in a trunk than the bellhousing :wierd:

Edit: Just curious :) not trying to try and get you to bring the extra sh!t.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

haha, some rotors, calipers, knuckles maybe... knuckles need help though.

Ah ok. Well yeah, whatever you want to bring I am 100% sure I can fit it in my car. If it's all in one place and you want to get it moved out then feel free to throw it in when you leave. The one option I have in my car is rubber floor and trunk mats. I'm not worried about a mess. Hell I bought my welder/welder cart/oxy acetelene tanks & cart, plus other stuff from a guy. He saw me pull in driving the car and thought I was mad until he saw me fit everything.

Agreed. idk what I shoudl do for the next 2 hours
