THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

:( sorryyyy. I didn't know 2 months ago either. Hell I didn't know 2 weeks ago
:laugh3: np, I'm glad I welded all new floors in myself. I learned alot about working with sheet and I ended up with a decent welder and a number of other tools, along with some extra 18ga

gooooood morning

Morning NAC

So who carries good brake rotors?

I know autozone probably has duralast (though I do have to say the Duralast rotors/pads have done well on the Jeep and have held up well to some hard braking so I can't put them down TOO much based on personal experience).

Advanced Auto seems to carry Wagner or Wearever.

NAPA carries... NAPA.

Whose rotors are the best? for front rotors the NAPA premiums come in right around $46, the napa ultra premiums are $84ish I think, the Wagner is around $53, Wearever is around $44, and the Duralasts are $64.

I mean long story short hopefully brakes are still covered under warranty... but if they aren't I will be replacing my rotors this wkend since they are getting warped as f*** and there's no way I am paying the Nissan service center to do the work. They suck ass and out of the 5ish+ problems they fixed so far: 2 came back within a few months, one was caused by them (they damaged my steering wheel), and 2 seem to be working fine still (knock on wood)

I usually go with RockAuto stuff when I get some advance warning that I will be needing something. If it's something I need RIGHT NOW and/or the XJ is currently half-apart and not driving, I get it at autismzone since they are literally half a mile from my apartment and I can be there and back in 20 minutes on foot. If it's anything else, I go to AAP or NAPA depending on what I'm looking for and who has it in stock.

As for brands, for some reason I'm a huge fan of Dorman for hydraulic lines and brake parts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm a fan of NAPA also. Last time when I put new calipers on, one leaked so they gave me two new ones so I could put them on and bring the leaky one back.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ya, alli need is some flares and driveshafts for the 241 then ill have a street legal jeep again!!!

also gonna do a rear disk conversion

gotta find out if heim joints are legal for steering here

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So it seems down to Wagner or NAPA. Though the Duralast are more expensive so they must be better, right? :gee:

I checked rockauto and they carry Wagner, ACDelco, and Raybestos. All prices are comparable to what I have already seen from the other places.

The big question (if anyone knows)... is it worth the extra $30 per rotor at NAPA to get the ultra premiums? So far I have always gone with the "yeah, the cheap one" method of shopping. I.e.
Autozone rep: "so we have these for $18, this for $27, and this for $36, you want one?"
Me: "yeah, the cheap ones"

But anyway, I figure if there is a substantial benefit to the ultra premiums they may be worth the money. But I also figure that for normal day to day driving the standard napa or wagners should be more than fine. Better than that s*** that Nissan keeps giving me at least.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So update: I just called nissan. Apparently according to them brake pads are only expected to last 12,000 miles and rotors are only expected to last 36,000 miles... at least that's what their warranty implies. :dunno:

They will replace pads if they go bad in the first 12,000 miles of having them, they will turn rotors if they have less than 36,000 miles... Oh and apparently tires are expected to go out of balance every 15,000 miles. I can kindof understand the numbers, don't get me wrong. They can't warranty pads/rotors for overly long periods of time... They do wear down over time and I understand that. What pisses me off is that I went in with warped rotors at like 35,000 miles or something. They turned them. I then exceeded 36,000 miles and now they won't even look at them even though their "fix" didn't solve my issue (which originally occurred at under 36,000 miles).

Oh well, I'm kindof glad. I get to do it myself and know it's done right this time. I think front rotors and pads are in line this wkend, then drive it for a week and do the rears if I still feel like there is some braking vibs. :dunno:

I got a front DS for you and a few spare parts for it, scully thinks he might have a rear DS for it (see Maine thread.)

I trust ACDelco and Raybestos - ACDelco because they're an OEM provider which means they must have done something right, and Raybestos because I have used their parts before and they seem to be good quality. I try to go for good quality parts where it means a royal pain in the butt or danger to me/my jeep if the part fails - i.e. I don't cheap out on brake hardware and I don't cheap out on tranny seals, rear main seal, etc. Also you might want to do a visual inspection of the part you need, then look it up on rockauto and make sure you have a few maker's part numbers for the one you think is right, then bring those to NAPA/AAP etc. In the last two weeks, NAPA has given me a front tranny seal and a pan gasket+filter set for completely the wrong transmission and AAP has given me completely the wrong rear tranny seal. Luckily I didn't have mine pulled out yet!

Dang, it's going to be around $630 for me to order my gears. That sucks!
Where from? My HP D30 4.10s with master kit, gears, and carrier cost me $256 shipped from national drivetrain on here. Maybe you're looking at a better brand of gears than Motive, which I think should be fine for me.
