Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sometimes I hate being a computer guy...

... I just got asked if I could stop by my friends place tomorrow after work to try and recover some data from her laptop and her mother's PC. She says that her laptop can start up in safe mode... wtf did they do to their computers that apparently only one of the 2 will even start in safe mode?!?!? Hopefully she picks up some beer before I stop by. And she said her mother said she would "compensate" me for my time.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure my buddy (this girls brother who just moved to TX last fall) fixed this same PC less than a year ago. In fact I am almost certain that I am the person who brought this very same PC up to his campus in ME one weekend last winter so he could fix it for his mother while he was at his work study.

Now where is my external hard drive.....:badpc:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Furniture to be made from auto parts:
* carrier lamps
* carrier+axleshaft+wheel or brake disc floor lamps
* 4.0 table, of course
* bucket seat barstools/desk chairs etc
* tach clocks/weather center

At some point I want to come up with a cool idea for a steering wheel but I haven't yet.

I thought about using a steering wheel and a piece of glass to make one of those lazy susan things for the table, though it may be a touch off balance.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah that's what I was thinking, likely to be annoying.

Went down to check the mail and my d30 4.10s got here :yelclap:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mmmm, look at that rubber on that balancer. (The fan was in the way, but it keeps going until there is no rubber visible)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

if you want to run 4.88s I'd say grab 'er up!

and, kinda looks like a Detroit, but not quite :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yes. you should. you want the 3 spd atlas anyway.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I vote grab it if you wanna run 4.88s anyways, that's a bit less than even gears/carrier/master kit for my d30 was

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh yeah... Scott, these liftgate struts might be too strong for hood struts, I have to put nearly all my weight on one to compress it, I'm afraid it'll bend the hood

I'll be the lab rat! :D

I was going to install it last weekend but ended up sidetracked... DAMNIT! I was at home depot last wkend picking up some 1/4" rod to make hinge pins and I was looking at angle iron telling myself "I know I need this for something" but I couldn't remember what. Now I remember that I think I was going to use the angle iron to make a bracket for the strut.

Anyway, yeah, I forgot to do it last weekend. This weekend the axle takes priority, but then after that I may tackle the strut.

I think it'll be fine. You close metal hatches on the newer style XJ's with them. And the older one are fiberglass, as far as I'm concerned the fiber glass on the hatch would break before the metal of the hood would bend.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i think this axle is deciding that you will run 4.88's. it's almost too good of a deal. FWIW, i think that carrier is made by eaton, hard to tell what model it is, but i want to say detroit.

I'm pretty sure they were off an XJ with the metal hatch as they were pulled off a new body style XJ (I can't remember if metal hatch started as soon as the new body style did or if it was added a year or 2 later). And I am pretty sure the fiberglass ones don't have this much push behind 'em.

But like I said, I will lab rat it and report back
