Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That and they are not bolt in to an XJ.

Positive? I don't care nor did I research but Colin insisted that they are. You know bolt in like say... ahem, any Dana 60 chevy, ford or dodge from the early 70s to the late 80s into a full size jeep...

Positive. The brackets aren't even close to the TJ/XJ setup.
Sure if you can somehow call a D60 bolt, then I guess. :gee:
Edit: I just saw the full size Jeep part, I guess then yes a D60 would be "bolt in". Surely not for an XJ.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's more of a mild wheeler now. And I plan to keep it that way for a while. This one will rot away before I get enough use out of it to make it worth while to do a ton to it. And it's still my DD for the most part. I have the seals already I just havnt put them in, I tried to get the discs but couldnt get them out at the J-yard, and the 760x joints sound good but for now my stock joints are my driveline fuse. What were the 760x's most common in? I know they'er newer body style but would I be better off looking for a 99 with them or would 97-99 have them(assuming 00/01's are different becasue of LP)?

Well if you drive a vehicle old than the axle your putting it and not throwing some super fancy suspension in while you're at it sure it is. Well shock mounts aren't always bolt in but those totally dont coun't.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not sure when the 760s came in but I think around 95ish(someone will correct me) but it wont matter if you get the from a low pinion 30. A 30 is a 30.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I could've figured that out. :banghead:Any one know what they measure?

Eh don't bother with that, they're big enough to know right when you look at em. 760s are the same as what's in a 44 and 260s(or whatever number they are given) are friggin small.

It's been awhile since I fooled around with smaller joints, but IIRC:
The bearing cap size on a 260 is 1.0625"
The bearing cap size on a 297/760 is 1.1875"

It's hard to tell in all these online pics but to me they definitely look smaller when you see them. I checked and it is in 95 when they switch over. So 95-01 is where you want to look.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I tell you mine have 4:10s will you buy my axles? I want a rubi front 44 and a 8.8
If they actually do and you aren't pulling my leg, sure! I'm figuring I'll get 4.10s if I can buy prebuilt axles that way, or 4.56s if I have to gear because... while I swear I'll never go for larger tires I don't want to shoot myself in the foot gearing wise if I decide to after all.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmm didnt know that. I'm actually fine with my HP30 and 8.25. If I do any more to my axles other then gear to 4.56, it'll be install my alloy usa seals on my d30, ARB in the d30, alloy shafts in the rear and disc brakes in the rear.

Forget the ARB in the D30. Way too much money.

Only worth putting one of those in a 44 or a 60.

even the jk's are junk, the knuckles bend very easy

I read about that and the tubes cracking around the passenger side control arm mount on the early production ones.

They make a gusset and tube sleeve kit for them that was fairly cheap.

The only problem is you can't go OTK steering with them and they're pretty wide.

I never said they were "bolt in", but the control arm mounts were fairly close. The coil buckets were off by about .5" on each side, same with the UCA mounts. I measured on Jeff's JK and then my XJ.

That's friggin AWESOME!

I'd just throw in some 760s and grind out the stock shafts for full circle snap rings. Cheap, strong, and you'll most likely blow a ring gear before them (though doubtful on anything less than 34-35s).

Are there any tell tail signs to tell if they are infact 760 shafts or am I going off hopes and dreams?

Any XJ with ABS SHOULD have them, and they started throwing them in all XJs starting in '95.

TJ, XJ, ZJ (if they don't have CV shafts) doesn't matter. All the same lengths and everything.

4.88s > 4.56s

I wouldn't want any less gearing than I have now on 35s, and the argument of 4.56s being stronger than 4.88s is a moot point if you run a stock carrier, since that will flex/destroy itself first.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well, 4.88s would be *really* tall for 32s or 33s IMO... and that's what I'm on till I happen upon a set of ATs in whatever size I can get.

You're talking to someone who ran 4.88s on 33s and drove 80+ miles a day.
