The MJ is totaled :(

It LIVES!!

Video;

And I note, after pulling the plugs and blowing a quart of oil out of the cylinders, it fired right up and smoothed right out!

I pressure washed the oil off the engine and the mud off the exterior

As for the a pillar on the pass side, yes the door is open, it will not shut completely due to the roof pushing down on it.

Yes the truck does have sentimental value to my son, we built it together last summer. It was our first "father/son" resto project.

Well given the sentamental value of it then I say get it fixed and have him help with it. You should be able to find a mj in a JY or being parted out and cut the roof off from a few inches down the a and b pillars to be grafted in. All the dents in the bed can be pulled out fairly easy by a body guy with a good dent puller like the ones that weld the metal rods to the body. The kid will get better as time goes on or become a body man.

Unfortunately he will not be here to help with the repairs. He will be in the Navy by the time my friend starts on the body work.

I'm not a B&F guy, I'm a mechanic. All I would do is fubar it up worse than it is but I have a friend that is willing to take on the job on the side. He told me up front that it will take him a year or so.

He is just a bad driver, thats the only way I can explain it. My wife and I are good drivers, no wrecks or tickets between us. But our kids suck at driving. I guess it skips a generation.

Tell him to quit looking a the f-ing star on the hill and drive dammit!

I'd repair it - But then I'm a vehicular sentimental.

Hahaha, I take it you have been through "The Star City of the South" before!

He was way back in the sticks in Roanoke County enjoying the scenery of the wet snow when the temps dropped fast and the snow began pouring down. He had never driven in the snow before but thought he could handle it. He made a bad decision, he should have parked it and asked me to come get him.

Live and learn, luckily, he was able to live longer to learn from his mistake.

We are pulling the interior out of the truck today in preps of cutting the roof out and graphing a new one on as soon as I pick up a donor.

Speaking from experience Jon..If you can find one that has a solid cab on it you are going to be way ahead of yourself swapping cabs and all of the stuff inside them versus trying to do the body work to scab a roof on.

Even if the donor cab had rotten floor pans it would be much easier to scab new floor pans in the donor cab out of the one you have.

I hate to say it but I'd probably find another one and swap everything else over. Most people consider a dead drivetrain or junk axles in a truck that old to be a death knell, so finding one might be easier than you would think.

That being said, didn't one of the SEC guys (forget nick, KGPsomething?) do something similar to this? Drill out an ass load of spot welds and then graft new panels out of another vehicle on?

Yup. My wife grew up there, went to Northside, we visited in 2004 for her reunion.

Oh Yeah! i remember you telling me about that. I went to Cave Spring, we are cross-town rivals.

Gotta love a small southern town, nothing to do on a Friday night except go to the football game and yell at the refs and coaches LOL!

Did you see the recent post in the Craigslist for SEC looks perfect for you!

I'll check it out. I scored a top(bottom of pillars up including back glass) and a straight hood for $80 today. I just need both power doors and both fenders then a good body man to do the top and fix the dents in the bed.

GL! Glad you decieded to take on this MJ damage and give it another life.

hello from Stuart, been to that star many times, remember before 911 when it was all white. only 50 miles or so depending on how I go, my ol'lady took her nephew to hospital for an apointment up in Roanoke yesterday, brought me back some Dunkin Donuts.

the damage doesnt look bad from what I see, are you planning to remove the bed, & put new bedsides in? or going to pull them out? I only saw the passanger side, & the side looks repairable from my screen, roof clips are easy, but prep work, takes the time, but still doable in a long day, it has been over 10 years since I clipped a roof, been 3 or so years since I did anything major, like replacing floors in a 69 Camaro.

I picked up a cab top(cut from the bottom of the pillars) and a hood from another VA MJ'er on Saturday. Gave me a great deal and helped me get the top off and load it up!

I just need some powered XJ doors and a pass side front fender then it can go to the body shop.

I missed this post somehow. You are not far from me at all. I love Roanoke, wouldn't live anywhere else!

Dunkin Donuts is good but the Krispy Kreme on Melrose is better. I have to stay away from that place if I want to live very long LOL!
