The "Hope I get done before Winterfest" List.....

Got the baby jeep almost squared away for Winterfest...of course its going to California first for KOH. Got spare shafts with new ujoints, had my rear driveshaft rebuilt, installed new disconnects from RE, replaced the steering with a rugged ridge setup, put a better front driveshaft in, replaced the front axle seal...need to change the oil in the motor...

Need to install some HID lights and try to do better with the cb antenna, then its just nut and bolt and back spares, its being picked up with the 2place trailer on the 22nd of January to go to California on Feb 3rd...

Speaking of the 2place, the bearings got repacked tonight with lucas slimy red no. 2 grease and new bearings on the drivers side and the front jack got some love and i welded my weight distribution hitch connector things to the trailer...

getting close to having both rigs ready for winterfest...as long as the baby jeep comes back from cali in one piece...otherwise I only have 2.5 weeks to fix whatever is broke...

mac 'this is getting expensive' gyvr

Install leaf packs with new u-bolts
Install longer braided steel rear brake line
Change diff fluid on both axles
Grease all u-joints

Replace Belt Tensioner Pulley
Install Gatorback Serp. Belt

Depending on how new leaf packs sit...
Install front coil spacers
Install new shocks

gotta fix my wipers and finish up my rear shock mounts. I am thinking about a rear tire carrier, but doubt I will have time to get that completed. I need to really consider getting some new trailer tires as well......

OK, I've searched myself in a huge circle... I'm only posting here because it pertains to WF. I need to make sure I have proper tow points on the Jeep. I bought the nice front tow hook set up from IRO. I need to know if the "factory" tow hook kit is an approved tow point for this event. I don't wanna spend money on a rear bumper right now but want to be equipped for the event.

Thats a nice mount cause it also ties in the front of the frame, however, I do beleive tow hooks are not allowed, you will need to get/fab shackle mounts to hold d-shackles....

Just found this:

• Adequate tow points both front and rear, properly attached. NO welded hooks allowed.

So I guess one of the BoD will have to chirp in on that... Seeing as they are not technically welded...

If someone that knows if this is not approved please let me know. I'm pretty sure tow hooks are allowed, just not allowed on the end of your tow straps. Is this correct?

"Tow Hooks" Are allowed . The sticky point comes from how they are attached. If they are attached to the frame with one of the approved mounting brackets than they are fine. What TECH will not pass is a couple of farm and fleet hooks bolted to holes drilled through your front or rear bumper. Frame mount with quality hardware is what they are looking for. I can show you my set up at the M&G on the 22nd if you make it. Rev...feel free to rip me if i am giving out incorrect info

well thats good news then... thanks for the clarification! I traked down a factory tow hook kit minus the tow hook, which is no longer available. hope an aftermarket hook will fit the factory bracket.

I just pulled the jeep out of the garage after installing 5.5" lift and 33's. I'm excited about how it turned out. I've fought this thing tooth and nail to get to this point. Nothing was easy, everything was seized up.

Still need to do before Winterfest:
1) Adjustable trac bar
2) T-case drop
3) SYE, don't know if i can get this done before WF
4) permanent CB setup

a SYE is a bit of a job, but very easily done if you have the time and tools. I have them down to just about 2 hours now start to finish and reilstalled :D A TC drop will get ya by for a while but it is just a band-aid. A SYE is what you will need on that much lift. Looks good man!

one other thing, that new front bumper does not appear to be tied back beyond the front 3 factory bolts. It will have to be tied in beyond those and further down the frame to be considered to pass tech for Winterfest. Just a heads up.

One more thing to add the the list. My Dodge has developed a "clunk" in the steering to go along with the steering wheel play that it has had for a while. Its not the track bar, just replaced in August, I bet it is the steering box. Now I have a list for the Tow rig and the Jeep. On a positive note, the Xj's cage is almost finished, so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

XJ is back on the ground and tow points are installed. Progress is being made, at least. I'll get it out of the shop this week so we can do FlexdXJ's new lift next weekend, and then I can swap his old stuff onto mine.

As long as the XJ is lifted by then, I'll take the good M/Ts off the ZJ and bring the XJ to WF. If I don't get the XJ done or I end up with a bunch of passengers I'll just bring the ZJ. Still would like to get glow plugs done on the Stupid Duty before then too, even though it's a short drive so I don't technically need to.

I finally have a decent shop and I can still find excuses not to get stuff done...
