The Colorado Rant/Vent thread

Sorry for your loss, Jeff.

Today, Blanco got hit by a car. I saw it. He's fine but I'm still feeling down. He got knocked a few feet, rolling, he picked up so much dirt his coat is gray. We took him to the emergency vet by Frank's place. Good vet, reasonable. Man, that was a loud thump. And then I scared the poor driver, cussing him out and running at him. I saw Blanco get up unbloodied, and I realized it was my freaking fault, and sat there apologizing to the driver. Poor guy.

I'm glad Blanco is ok. He's an awesome dog in the prime of his life.

so is it just me, or is the jeep 4.0 IMPOSSIBLE to keep from having valvetrain clatter... its a freshly built 4.6 with new cam and lifters, rocker arms, pushrods, valves, etc. and it STILL ticks... sanded .010 off the pedastals to increase preload, worked good for a while, and now i have a more audible, almost knock, that happens above 1500 rpm, and will stay at idle for a few seconds then go away.. idk what to do about it now.

What about the Jeep makes you think it would be a quiet vehicle in the first place? The 4.0L is based on an engine design that came out in 1964. On top of that its a Jeep, not a Mercedez or land Rover.

What oil are you running? Are you running ZDDP?

Yup, you need to run a break-in oil to get everything seated. After you drain that, add the ZDDP to every oil change.

The aftermarket is starting to service the niche market, that is still running flat tappet cams. You have to be proactive in getting this compound into your crankcase.

The bad news is that you may have wiped a cam lobe already.

I finally resolved the issues with my new Airtex fuel pick up assembly.

I went to the junkyard and pulled a stock assembly from another RENIX Jeep.

I adapted the carrier to accept the new Bosch pump, sealed it with a new lock ring kit from Spectra. End of problems!

As a side note, the gaskets and isolaters in the NAPA brand pump, and tank gasket in the Bosch kit look very much like the ones in the Airtex kit. Since I had the Spectra gasket and lock ring, I plan on soaking the flat faced gasket from the Bosch kit to see if it swells. :flamemad:

If the guys at O'Riley refund the hunnert bucks I spent on that Airtex crap, I'll buy my spark plugs there. :)

its not "brand new" hah it was broke in properly with VR1 20-50, and some comp break in additive. i still run the vr1. its got 7500 miles on it. I dont have a wiped cam lobe either. my dad didnt inform me the lifters he ordered for it were anti-pump ups, and that they would be noisy under like 2000 rpm. they are more directed for higher revving motors appearantly.

I removed this sh!t from one of the bigger trout I caught today. Looks an awful lot like a snagging hook. Wish I had seen who had put it in the fish. I probably would have gotten in trouble.

Sunuva!

A little back story... When I'm not carrying a Glock 26 on my ankle, I usually have a little Ruger LCP in my back pocket in an inside the pocket holster. When I drive I toss it in the center console because its super uncomfortable on my skinny bum...

So last night I ran to the store real quick /w the dog. Came back and had my hands full with a hyper Husky and a couple grocery bags, so I didnt lock the Jeep right away thinking I would put it in the garage in a second(my room mate has the only garage remote...). I ran inside and took a quick leak, and stepped out back /w my pup so he could do the same. I noticed two guys walking in the grassy area next to my house cutting through to the main road(not an uncommen thing to see). It was super dark so I couldnt see much more than movement and the shape of people. I overheard one of them say "Shhhhh. There he is!" as they went by. My first though was if they had just stolen my radio or the GPS on my windshield, the gun didnt even cross my mind. I went inside and cut out through to the garage right away. Sure enough when I get to the Jeep, the center console is flipped open and everything that was inside is now sitting on the drivers seat, and the pistol is gone... I called Thornton PD right away /w the serial number and reported it stolen. This morning as I was getting ready for work I couldn't find my jacket and realized it had been on the back seat. Sure enough, gone... At least I have a way to spot who did this if he is dumb enough to go through there wearing that jacket...

Let this be as a reminder to everybody not to leave anything in your car, and lock your doors, even if it is at home and just for 5 minutes!

Yeah, I learned that lesson the hard way too Ben. Had my S&W 3913 and shoulder rig with 2 full mags stolen from the lower storage bin under my truck's seat because I had a RARE momentary lapse in security and forgot to lock the truck. Came out to head to work and noted that my map light was staying on...... sick feeling...... but nothing looked disturbed. The ONLY thing missing was the gun and shoulder rig....... FAWK. Nothing like having to walk into Internal Affairs to report my own stupidity.....

Got lucky and the gun was recovered - ditched in a creek out at Chatfield Dam. Was found likely within a day of being in the creek. I was able to clean it and use it again...... and it will never be left unattended again that's for sure.

I hope it's recovered before it gets used to commit a crime or worse...

This is exactly why I carry instead of leaving it in my rig. If it's out of the locked case it's on my hip....always. In town or on the trail, trust no one when it comes to firearms.

This for me as well.people ask why I don't leave it in the car.....that's why

Yeah, I always carry as well, 95% of the time concealed. This one is either in the inside the pocket holster in my back pocket or jacket pocket, in my center console if I am carrying it that day and happen to be in my car(then back in my pocket right away), or in my safe and I am carrying one of a multitude of other pieces... Usually a Glock 17 and 26 for work and beating the crap out of in the garage, Colt Agent or a 1911 when wearing nicer suit and tie, and the LCP for deep concealment when wearing lighter clothes or shorts. Those are the mainstays. I'm like a chick /w shoes when it comes to guns...

The whole reason I didn't grab it was part complacency and negligence, and part hyper husky and full hands. I figured I was going to be back outside in less than 5 minutes and nothing would happen. Just goes to show you that timing doesnt matter! It didn't even cross my mind. And seriously wasn't the first thing I thought of when I was going back outside. I really do have nobody to blame but myself!

And Troy, I seriously had this wave of nausea, cold sweats, and crackly voice come over me when I realized it was gone!

I talked to PD again today and pulled the whole blue brotherhood card to try and find out who the problem houses are in the neighborhood. The Sarge said he would rally the troops and ask some questions over the next few days and get back to me. Community policing at it's finest!
