THe asp Lots-O-Craigslist Thread

That's altrocker on here that is selling it.

only because its not assembled enough to sit outside at your house :( i'm going to be honest and say it probably won't sell at the prices i'm asking so there is a good chance it will be in my possession long enough for you to get to see it. hell, maybe even before anyone from the mwc does :)

if anyone wants details on it, just shoot me a pm..i'll give you the full (and honest) run down on it

85 2.5L automatic XJ for parts, asking $500, who wants a factory-geared 4.56 front diff? http://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/3712923068.html

(check the tags first, but it's probably 4.56, or at the very least 4.10. I bet that thing's worth 200+ in scrap, or sell the motor to a YJ guy for 100, scrap the rest for 200, keep the axle, pay 400 and you have a 100 dollar 4.56/4.10 d30)

I'd grab it but I don't need anything off it and don't feel like dealing with a part-out.

28 year old gears? No thanks.

what? Like they got old so now they're gonna fall apart?

If it's an AW4 it will be 4.56s. If it's a 3 speed auto then it's 3.73s I believe. Or even 3.55s.

I'd take 'em. Throw some new bearings/seals in there if you even need to.

I'd rather have factory gears that old (as long as they aren't rusty and the bearings aren't shot to the point that the wear pattern is all fubar) than aftermarket of unknown quality and unknown installer, unless I knew the person who installed them by reputation. Even then, you could easily end up with that axle for $100 or less, at that point it's a decent gamble even if you need to put new gears in it.

This is all assuming it's not horribly rotted and the gears aren't screwed up. It looks like a pretty clean jeep so I would think it's worth looking at if someone is looking for 4.56s.

And yeah, Colin, I think you're probably right. Though I've heard from a guy on here who owned one that his 84-86 era 2.5/5 speed had 4.56s, so it could really be anything. I wouldn't consider buying it without checking the tags or counting turns that's for sure.

Like everything in there has had 28 years to be unmaintained. Think about it- it's a 28 year old base model cherokee- what makes you think the owners have been 100% with the PM?

If it worked out and somehow everything was good in it, then cool. Chances are though, you're also looking at all kinds of rot on the mounts, bad ball joints, etc. Rather have a newer housing that may not need work and set up gears in it.

FCs actually do absolutely nothing for me. Just not interested for some reason.

There was one near me for 900 that ran, wife said I would have to keep it at kens

Up for sale is a very rare 1991 Jeep Comanche, Eliminator Edition. 4.0L, 6 cyls of pure power carried on four brand-new tires, paired with a five speed manual power train. New alternator. new battery, and new plugs are included, four new speakers installed matched with a CD/MP3 player with removable faceplate. Bucket seats will collect your spine as you take off down the street at a pace thought only reachable by NASA. New halogen bulbs will light the road as you cruise into the sunset.

There is one spot of rust on the passenger's side, and the paint job isn't perfect up close (looks good going down the street though). Oil pressure is good, but the oil pressure gauge isn't accurate (needs a new sending unit, most likely).

She's powerful enough to get scratch in second gear, but I'm a pretty conservative driver, she's not often put through her paces. She's reliable, about three months ago she got me from Kansas to Massachusetts with a full payload in the rear. I have the tailgate removed at the moment, makes the interstate driving go by a little swifter that way.

To prevent any confusion here, I do have a lien on the title with the Topeka Police Credit Union (my loan is through them), so getting the title will take a short amount of time. I'll be using Escrow.com to verify funds for my leinholder and get the title cleared.

The Jeep is available to see and test drive in Medford, where I currently live. If this Jeep doesn't drop-kick your heart into high gear, I'd suggest swinging by a doctor's office and getting a checkup done.
