This is what I found

The front axle turned out to be a Dana 44 which still isnt bad.

The rear however turned out to be..

:loveu:

Yes I did scoop that up. 500 for the whole truck with an extra carb, 2 hoods, 2 sets of doors, 2 rear sliders, and new floor pans uninstalled. I dont think that was one I could pass up!

Looks like Im going big before I expected too!:guitar:

The rear 60 isn't worth much. Its propably not worth putting it in your XJ. Its big, heavy, and has the same size axle shafts as a dana 44. Unless you swap in a 35 spline locker with shafts and bore out the spindles..

rears out of 99-04 Ford E-350s are full float, disk brake, with 32 spline shafts, but have larger bore spindles that can fit 35 spline upgraded shafts without modification.

I never said weak, but definately not the holy grail of rear axles. There are better choices that are either more light weight with similar strength or much more heavy duty.

Curious as to which axle that is lighter and stronger than a 60? That is a full float axle in that truck. I know its not 35 spline but thats a deal for those two axles wirh a working drivetrain. I can get almost 200 back on scrap for the frame and body, then sel the motor and tranny for a couple hundred plus the spare parts ill end up with free housings. Its not like im tryimg to sell the axles.
Anybody else see where I called it the holy grail of axles?
Or I would be interested if someone else thinks it wouldnt be worth using that rear?

Thanks,
Mike

Billy was just saying don't expect to be able to "go big" with that rear D60.

I agree with him.

Unfortunately im not looking to get rid of eifher axle im going to build both and stuff them under my xj regardless of what anyone else says.
Thank you,

No problem really just looking for the 8 lug outer parts, I got the same type of odd ball axles going in mine. D44/Sterling 10.25 Just build them right. More power to you when you make them work!
