Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

It makes me wonder how much our trackbar setup magnified the problem, but I'm still 100% sure the cause was us being hit by another car. Gonna put it back together the same way, but with a bigger brace, and not think about it again.

It seems like it would be easy to run a plate from the front / inboard side of the "C" to the front of the coil pad, that would alleviate any of these concerns, and right now, you don't even have to remove any paint to weld it on.

so wait...2wd front beam axles use a smaller diameter tube, and still have the hole for the shaft? :wow:

oh i'm dumb. Still doesn't explain the hole for the shaft though lol

Have you considered plating the outer knuckle?

Strength through simply adding material?

Cal keeps talking about this, but I have a couple concerns. One is that there just really isn't a good place to add material to the knuckle in a way that would be meaningful strength wise, and not get in the way of something like the ball joint nut or the axle shaft. The other is the effect of welding stuff to the cast knuckle and actually creating weak spots. If you look at the broken inner C there are cracks on both sides starting right where the welds for the gussets end.

I'm quite convinced that the only reason the outer knuckles failed is because of the gross overload in force from the other vehicle hitting it. The second one failed due to the inner being bent/cracked by the same impact. I really don't feel that the knuckle is a weak point for even the abusive use this car sees.

Are you guys planning on racing Stampede?

Cal and I will be racing Stampede, but not in this car. Today we reassembled 4643, got it off the lift, and brought in 4696 which is what we'll be racing there.

For a small shop this place is starting to get crowded. I also have these rides on the to-do list.

That's about the size of it. Poor Boys Racing (4696) have become good friends to us over the last few years. As the calendar worked out, the Stampede is on the same day as the drivers wedding. They are chasing the series title and we are not, so Brian asked me to drive their car at Stampede chasing points. We won't be out to win, just get a solid finish and keep them in the running.

Futile, because Dallas and I intend to race 4643 against them at Glen Helen and knock them off of the podium, but you know, how often do you get to race a rental car? :)

The tentative plan is that Dallas and I will do a race or two this year while we rebuild 4643, and then next year Richard and I will go after the series title again with the rebuilt car.

Drive it like you stole it......and then sandbag it right near the finish line.
