Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

I'm kinda surprised you're still running a stock crossmember on the racecar. Figured it would have turned into a popcan by now.

I knew the 00+ 4.0s had the centered pattern, and that BA-10/5 equipped vehicles had either a different crossmember or it was mounted in a different spot, but didn't know the 4cyls had a different crossmember/mount. Good to know that... though we rarely see 4cyls up here.

I'd be interested in seeing if 4.0 mantrans vs 4.0 auto trans are different for 00 and 01. Gut tells me yes, but I don't know for sure if the NV3550 (introduced in 2000 as well) may have made up for the difference in mounting height.

I ended up using the offset on my 2001 4.0/AW4/NP242/stock crossmember. It didn't want to fit at first, but I managed to get everything lined up eventually and haven't had any problems with it since.

Out of curiosity, which Daystar mount do you have, the offset or centered one? The more I dig into this project the more variations I find. I literally have a pile of different mounts on my coffee table right now. No wonder I'm single :looney:

Daystar part KJ01010BK

It is centered but I did need to open the holes up a little. I run a TNT Customs belly pan with an offset mounting point so I can use a centered mount.

I believe My stock cross member had offset holes for a centered mount as well. This was for a 2001 with pre cats.

Its quite modified, which is why i didnt just throw an offset crossmember on.

I got a pile of metal in from the laser cutter today. The first batch of production mounts will be getting welded together tomorrow ;)

Dang, The time it takes my brain to move a thought to my hands, Dallas would
have built it, took a picture it, and have it posted on his website.

Finally another option for a transmission mount and that looks outstanding!

The only thing that bothers me with the Daystar mount, was the fact it was flat on the bottom and not angled like the factory mount. Haven't had any issue, but I'm sure it was there for a reason. The rotational ability of this mount would allow it to sit in the proper position, instead of forcing a flat mount to work. Very nice.

I wonder what the NVH would be, compared to a poly trans mount?

Very nice Dallas.

It is by far the nicest item on this pile of garbage 'race car'.

The first prototype went onto someones stock DD, who said it wasn't noticeable over his worn out stock trans mount at all.

Actually the stock mount we replaced was only a couple months old and in very good shape. I cant claim that we mounted any kind of vibration monitoring equipment to the vehicle, but generally savvy owners can feel changes in their vehicle and he said he couldn't tell any difference.

As for the angle, this mount does have the ability to "hinge" but simply using that pivot point to account for the angle would shift things ever so slightly backwards. Probably not enough to matter, but I designed that angle into the tabs of the lower half so that everything is properly aligned without any "hinging"

you'll notice a change in NVH way more in motor mounts than you will in trans mounts.

What different trans mounts have you tried? What different motor mounts have you tried?
What do you base this statement on?

I have the MORE bombproof rubber motor mounts, Ironman4x4fab control arms with poly bushings, daystar poly upper control arm bushings at axle, Addco sways with poly bushings, and Flexform composite leaves with poly bushings. I tried the Daystar poly trans mount and it vibrated my @$$ off. It didn't last a week in there. I see that my new rubber replacement cracked in less than a year. . .
