Team MAD build

For fuel, I picked a RCI cell that fit in my location. I had to fit a car seat in the back seat area as well as wanted to get as much weight as far back as poss for transfer. SO mine is in the far back. I plated the floor pretty much solid with 3/16" in the far back, and then bolted thru that down thru the floor to plates on the lower side for mounting tabs for shocks as well as thru the unibody rails to make a very integrated shock mounting system that ties to the cage, even though we cant put shocks thru the floor. The cell is I think a 22gal that you can find from summit for a very good price. Then for fuel pick ups, you need 4 total. One with a bleed hole.

so one in each corner with hard SS tubing to each in a H pattern with a 3/8" submersable line up to the pick up in the cell. Filled with RCI foam mostly.

I cant recall exactly what pump, maybe a Bosch 2000, from autozone for 100$ and I got 2 (one for spare or you can run them in parallel. its a common jeepspeed pump for this type of use.

Then what I love the most about my fuel system in the bypass style adjustable regulator. Its a areomotive knock off from Ebay and was like 75$ and has a bypass port and fully adjustable from 10-60psi. This is great if you run anything more then stock motor. I started with 26lb Inj at 35psi, but recently went up to new Bosch flow matched 19lbs at 52psi and it runs much better and no stalling out at random, like it once did. just run 2 3/8" alum tubes (summit racing again 20ft) from the cell up to the eng compartment and use one for sup and one for ret.

As for why not racing this year and getting it dirty. It has been very well seasoned elsewhere. It has a good amount of bruises now, so its been used and will continue to be. My main reason is my personal issues with Dave and Shannon, mixed with giving them about 1000$ (IRC tracker and entry fee's) just to race one race. I will still go out there, but I will in no way put a dollar in to daves pocket nor in to Ultra4 any more. Their care for us lil guys and the EMC class last year and so far since, shows where the real interest is, $$$$... And I understand that now, and its his kid, so thats his choice to grow how he likes, but the kid that could be more then it is, is growing up like a snot nosed lil punk that is loosing respect of some of those that can help it grow, including the sponsors. But then thats all my opinion. TO those that havent raced it or seen behind the curtains, and how us lil guys mean very little to U4, at least the race is a great thing to look forward to and to experience at least once.

Robert thanks for the detail description of the fuel set up. Ill look in to it once im back and go from there. As for not wanting to race due to coverage or support for the true every man I get that but like you it is an experince i want to par take in at least once so Ill go and see whats up. Thanks again for the input, ill be sure to bounce questions off you if any come up.

Have you looked into Dirt Riot it is a great grass roots racing program and very cheap to race! We had a great time out there this season and hoping to get more people to come out and race with us!

Yeah I have and its just the logistics. But that mixed with JS are both options I have considered.

Dirt Riot was my first race and loved it! Big Rich and Shelly are freat people and host a great event. After KOH Dirt Riot is next on my racing list.

Well my Dad picked up our Deaver Leaf pack. Thanks goes to Scott for helping us out and working with us.

Robert, I appreciate the help you are willing to provide, both to us and this team and to others. You do seem to get sour grapes about things pretty easily, and don't hesitate to post about it. I have no problem with you having whatever opinion you have, but do want to post that I have been involved in Ultra4 racing since the beginning and I have no problem with Dave or Shannon or anyone else involved and I think they are doing a great job so far. They are not perfect, and of course there is always room for issues in any endeavour, but I think they are trying hard to make Ultra4 racing a good experience for everyone involved.

BTW, it's pretty cool that you came away with a really nice and fun XJ. :)

Movin on...

Well today was my first full day home and I already started tearing in tot he XJ. First had to move it and get it off the trailer. Then filled up the tires as they were low from sitting for six months..like 3.5psi low. Dropped the battery ina nd fired right up, god I love the 4.0L. Got it off the trailer, washed it down and then pulled the four doors to make room for the tube doors. still had energy so pulled the rear windows as they are no longer needed. So if any one needs glass for the rear of their XJ let me know.

No more doors, that should help shave a few lbs

Not a whole lot...well doesnt seem like a lot.

New cooling system-new t-stat, t-stat housing, water pump, serp. belt, new tranny cooler and A/C bypass pulley etc.

Also gutted the passenger side to make more room for my co-driver/passenger side. Removed the passenger side dash board and golve box along with the AC blower motor. Still need to remove the heater core and finish cleaning up the wires and cover the holes in the fire wall and its done. Also mounted my CB where the AC vent would have been.

Installed the brown dog engine bracket and motor mounts. let me say these things are beast! If you need a new engine bracket to replace the factory 3 mountung points to 7 look at Brown Dog. Their motor mounts are solid parts as well and combined make one awesome package!

I also installed my Deaver Leaf springs and wow those too are bad. I cant wait to try them at speeds!

done some more. I installed my THOR (trail head offroad) air intake. Super easy to install and helps with my goal of cleaning up the clutter under the hood. You can also see i covered the hole where i removed the AC blower on the fire wall. Also mounted my transmission cooler. Just need longer transmission lines to run them nicely then thats done, hope to have the cooling finished tomorrow and moving on its own power.

Pictures...

Well today finished the cooling system, and installed the air intake. Also thanks to Bill for helping me install my hood and hood pins. The intake is loud..from a dead stop the throttle response kinda sucks but once it goes it goes!

as always pictures...

sitting a tad lower with the deaver leaf pack. It should level out once the deaver coils are in and sit about an 1-1.5" lower from the old set up thus keeping a LCOG.
