TC output change year

I was just wondering what year the output on the 231's were changed. I thought the first year was 1997 but couldn't remember. I am asking b/c I am going to help a friend lift his 96' 3" and haven't seen his jeep firsthand to check. :dunce:

First year was 1996. You're looking for a slip joint that's behind the t-case tailcone rather than inside it, and a rubber dust boot. If you see the dust boot, that's the "new and improved" style.
