Tahoe on New Year's Eve

I want to go to Tahoe on New Year's Eve. I may even spend the weekend down there. I have only been in the Bay Area for about six months so I want to know where I should go, what I should do, and where I should stay. Also, there are a few different regions I guess in Tahoe so which one will be the most fun. Thanks for any input here.

South Lake is the place to be. Get a room on the strip. Big Head Todd and the Monsters are there 12/28-29. Don't ask, just buy some tickets and be rewarded with a rocking good show.
