Here is info that they just put out to their members for another wilderness in Utah.

Red Rock bill about to be introduced in Congress!

Contact your Representatives and Senators today!

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act is about to be re-introduced in the House and Senate, and we need your help to get as many original cosponsors on each bill as possible.

The bills will be introduced in the House on April 18th by Representative Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and on April 19th in the Senate by Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL). At the time of introduction the bills will be assigned Bill Numbers, and all the original cosponsors will be listed on the bill.

Why is cosponsorship important? For two reasons: First, it indicates that there is broad support for the legislation and it puts that support on the record. Second, it helps build momentum toward legislative action---which may include hearings as well as a possible vote on the floor. When a bill's cosponsor list is close to a majority in either the House (218 members) or the Senate (51 members) it is much more likely to see action.

Last year, 161 members of the House---including Representative Hinchey---cosponsored the bill. In the Senate, 15 members---including Senator Durbin---cosponsored. The current Congress has much more environmentally friendly leadership, and many new members who support the protection of public lands. We think our prospects in this Congress are very good for America's Red Rock Wilderness Act, but we need your help to get things moving.

The most important thing you can do is to contact your member of the House and your two Senators and tell them why you want them to cosponsor America's Red Rock Wilderness Act. If they have already agreed to cosponsor, make sure you THANK THEM!

As of today, here is the list of members of the House and Senate who have agreed to cosponsor the bill when it is introduced later this month. If your Representative and Senators are not on this list, please contact them TODAY.

Many thanks for your help.

I have the list of Representatives, and Senators who are sponsors and cosponsors on the bill. If you want the list, PM, and I will send you the whole email newsletter I got from them.
As they are writing their representatives, we need to do the same to defeat this.

The most important thing you can do is to contact your member of the House and your two Senators and tell them why you want them to <<< NOT >>> cosponsor America's Red Rock Wilderness Act.

If they have already agreed to cosponsor (?), make sure you TELL THEM <<< THEY WILL LOSE YOUR VOTE IN THE NEXT ELECTION >>>

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act will eliminate motorized vehicles from the area (eliminate you and your Jeep).

Is this what you want?

Make your intentions clear!

that is an excerpt from a SUWA newsletter with their intentions. that is what they are up to.

As they are writing their representatives, we need to do the same to defeat this.

but you are right, i was able to understand what was going on, but it may not have been as clear for other people reading this here. So what Ed said is correct.....we need to do the opposite!

Sorry for the confusion

What area(s) would be affected? San rafael Swell?

from SUWA's website:

For more than twenty years Utah wilderness advocates have been working to add the last great blocks of undeveloped, Bureau of Land Management (BLM)-administered public land in Utah to the National Wilderness Preservation System. They include the huge canyon systems of the Colorado, Green, San Juan, and Dolores rivers; the intimate slickrock narrows of the Escalante, Dirty Devil, Paria, and Virgin rivers; the vast tablelands and massive cliff-walls of the Kaiparowits Plateau, the Book Cliffs, and the Grand Staircase; and the isolated mountain ranges and desert riparian areas of Utah's Great Basin country. With your help, Utah's wild lands will finally be given the protection they deserve!

Here is the latest on the Red Rock Wilderness bill from SUWA

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act Gains Momentum

America's Red Rock Wilderness Act (ARWA) continues to gain supporters in Congress, after being reintroduced in April by its champions, Representative Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL). In addition to our champions, the bill now has 138 cosponsors in the House and a record 18 in the Senate. Are your Senators and Representative among them?

Among the new cosponsors of the landmark legislation are eleven freshmen representatives, including Representatives Gerald McNerney (CA-11), Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), Joe Courtney (CT-02), Chris Murphy (CT-05), Hank Johnson (GA-04), Mazie Hirono (HI-02), JohnYarmuth (KY-03), Keith Ellison (MN-05), John Hall (NY-19), Betty Sutton (OH-13), and Steve Cohen (TN-09). These new members deserve special thanks for making protection of Utah's spectacular wilderness a priority at the very beginning of their Congressional careers.

Another new cosponsor is incumbent Republican Ray LaHood (IL-18).

In the Senate, new cosponsors include returning incumbents Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA), as well as freshman Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Ben Cardin (D-MD), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). They too deserve our thanks.

If your Congressional representatives are on this current list of cosponsors please be sure to thank them.

Both Representative Hinchey and Senator Durbin intend to request hearings on the bill, and you can help by asking your Representative and Senators to support these requests.

--------------------------------------------------------

Just like the SUWA group is writing to their representatives, we need to do the same, and show our displeasure with this bill, and the wilderness designation that they want for this land.

Anyone else find it odd that the supporters of this legislation are 90% Democrat and from the State of Utah, which is most directly effected by this bill, there are ZERO Representatives that support this bill?
