Here is info that they just put out to their members for another wilderness in Utah.
Red Rock bill about to be introduced in Congress!
Contact your Representatives and Senators today!
America's Red Rock Wilderness Act is about to be re-introduced in the House and Senate, and we need your help to get as many original cosponsors on each bill as possible.
The bills will be introduced in the House on April 18th by Representative Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and on April 19th in the Senate by Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL). At the time of introduction the bills will be assigned Bill Numbers, and all the original cosponsors will be listed on the bill.
Why is cosponsorship important? For two reasons: First, it indicates that there is broad support for the legislation and it puts that support on the record. Second, it helps build momentum toward legislative action---which may include hearings as well as a possible vote on the floor. When a bill's cosponsor list is close to a majority in either the House (218 members) or the Senate (51 members) it is much more likely to see action.
Last year, 161 members of the House---including Representative Hinchey---cosponsored the bill. In the Senate, 15 members---including Senator Durbin---cosponsored. The current Congress has much more environmentally friendly leadership, and many new members who support the protection of public lands. We think our prospects in this Congress are very good for America's Red Rock Wilderness Act, but we need your help to get things moving.
The most important thing you can do is to contact your member of the House and your two Senators and tell them why you want them to cosponsor America's Red Rock Wilderness Act. If they have already agreed to cosponsor, make sure you THANK THEM!
As of today, here is the list of members of the House and Senate who have agreed to cosponsor the bill when it is introduced later this month. If your Representative and Senators are not on this list, please contact them TODAY.
Many thanks for your help.
I have the list of Representatives, and Senators who are sponsors and cosponsors on the bill. If you want the list, PM, and I will send you the whole email newsletter I got from them.
As they are writing their representatives, we need to do the same to defeat this.
