Suspension and steering opinions

Mainly because of building a new mount and I dint know that i'd have room back onthe firewall with the 350 in there but if I do end up with the room then that would be an easy solution I dunno well jus have to see after it's dropped in

you're swapping in a 350 in and you're worried about having to build a mount? I think it would be more work shoving a 350 in there than building a bracket to hold on to a steering box :dunno: I still say a hydro assist setup and beefed up steering linkage is going to be your best bet for ease of install and offroad repair.

Not necssarily the braket I dunno I'm probably overthinkibg it now too.

I really like the idea of running a triangulated 3 link and the steering set up that I-beam Jeep described he had. I'm not sure about up travel clearance, but I think you would want to use the arm Ryan suggested, but I think that would require a flat top Dana 44 which means an axle swap. Like I said I think it would be awesome.

That said, I think the 3 link/crossover steering route would be far easier and it's pretty well documented so you know what you're up against.

This is true . That Comanche is my huge inspiration right now. Lotta
nice work in that thing. Ya ibeam I remember seeing you picture
a long while back and just jaw drop. Once I get this thng done and mayb JIM gets back to his xj we could have a meet n greet/run for the forum here. It'd be awsome to see everyone elses rigs in person. But ya I dunno gonna pick up
y new engine on Friday go buy a big ass sheet of 3/16"plate and get to work on the engine bay

Full hydro steering sucks, especially in a desert rig meant to go fast. Simplicity doesn't really have an advantage here, full hydro is much simpler than a well designed assist system, yet the assist will kick the full hydros ass in feel, accuracy, and even power. I love my assist, and won't go full hydro, and am always looking for innovative ways to make a better steering system. I like the Genright twisted pitman arm design that allows for more suspension droop without binding the drag link. I'm most likely going to incorporate that into my next steering setup.

Think outside the box like you are......

Ya that was really my though it's kind of how I feel about drive by wire I like to feel the throttle not tap it and the jeep take off well have to see how the jeep turns out one I drop the 350 in hopefully I'll have the room and the brains to fab somethng new or less common that works well

We used the chevy style boomerang arm thing on the knuckle.

Why do you want to keep it in the stock location? You should check out the T&J J truck some time.

hahahaha anyone who has seen that j 10 will understand. that steering setup that i believe is toms designs is insane but it works... the steering colum alone has like 4 joints in it and it makes a big loop.
