Stroker kit for 95 XJ

I am new with the threads so don't laugh but I got my XJ about six months ago and i want some more power out of it.. its a 95 xj with a 4.0 ho engine automatic 4.5 lift, 33's, sye kit, stock gears, and i have been hearing alot about the stroker kits so i wanted to know what i would need to put one together? i was thinking thirty over but wanted to know what else i need to get to go with it and still get decent mpg with it because its the daily driver and i don't want to blow anything up.

Sorry, they don't make one for the '95. The '95s got some weird ass block. Looks like you're shit out of luck.

Try swapping gears out before building a new motor! It'll help alot! And cost less $$$. Then build the motor later.

Agree. the combination of 33's and stock 3.55 gears isn't conducive to good performance. A set of 4.56's would make a huge difference and you might decide then that you don't need a stroker. This doesn't stop you from building one anyway.

with gears would it kill my mpg also because for some reason i only get like 12 to 15 miles to the gallon now and my motor is stock except i have a k and n fipk kit and a magnaflow cat back exhaust, and i keep out of the gas? so with 4.56 or 4.11's i know it will help my power but i can't afford to get worse mpg. anybody else have similar mods with gears for an estimate on mpg?

Your mpg is that bad BECAUSE of your stock gearing. Stepping up in gears will actaully bring your mpg back up. It seems counter-intuitive, but it's because your not driving around with it floored all the time. I still say stroke the motor--there never can be enough strokers out there, but gears are probably what you need. I think they will cost about the same though comparing somebody else installing your gears to you doing the stroker.

do the gears, i can attest to MPG sucking with 355 and 33s, it only gets better with higher# gears since youre not fighting the low# gearing

over the summer, i would run 19-21 mpg with 3.55's and ~26.5in tires. put on my 30in snow tires, and my mileage dropped to a little less than 16. ive got my summer 26.5's back on and im back up to almost 18, which i attribute to the winter gas. so essentially im back up to where i was. the ratio has to match the tires for good mileage.


if you ever put your jeep into 4wd without changing the front gears, your front wheels would be overdriving (right?) your rears. it would at least cause huge traction problems if not tearing up your transfer case. good luck with that.

yes, unless you want your transfercase to explode.

i have decided that 4.10's are prob the way to go for my rig but the next question is that i am getting all the bearings for the diff. but do i need a new carrier bearing and what is a good company that has gears for cheap but aren't going to let me down.

Do lockers with the gear change since you will only be paying for parts plus a little extra. Trust me, do it now while they got it all apart.

I´d get the 30spline Kit with a locker of your choice and 4.56 gears for the Dana35 and some Warn axles for the Dana30.

Don't waste your money on the D35. I'd get a 8.8 or a D44 with better gears already in it and just get the front to match. Probably only $500 or so more expensive, but well worth it.
