While rumaging thru the junkyard yesterday I found a RENIX XJ that had the instrument panel with the idiot lights instead of actual gauges. In the change holder compartment forward of the shifter there was a panel with 3 holes each about the size of a quarter. Looked like some sort of factory change holder like the TJ's have but when I looked closer I could tell that they were gauges! Wiped off all of the dust and there was an oil pressure, voltmeter and collant temp gauge. It was held in with 4 phillips screws and had chrome inlay on the raised edge to match the dash bezel that goes around the stereo and heater controls. Yeah I know go back and get pictures...

The gauges weren't all that nice, small and green but it didn't appear to be a hackjob install. It was in a 4 door RENIX XJ with a 4.0 and an auto tranny.

Was this something factory or aftermarket?

Those gauges would be aftermarket.
You can use a full cluster out of a 87-90, as they all used a mechanical speedo, vs the HO which had electric sensor.
If you do so, you will need to swap/replace the CTS (coolant) and oil sender unit for the gauges to work correctly.

Gotcha. My XJ has full gauges, I was just trying to figure out if the one in the boneyard was OEM or not.
