Its the same for me, ever since things went wonky and were returned to normal, I can only choose from the list of avatar choices, I still can't upload a custom one from my or any other computer I've tried...

It is a know issue and there are several threads going already about avatars. Until it is posted that it is resolved, it will be an issue for everybody.
