Started my 4.7 Stroker build today.

I just started my 4.7L stroker build today for my 2000XJ. The build is composed of a bunch of parts, the main ones and machined block that I got from Russ Pottinger, including a Scat stroker crank, a ported Edelbrock aluminum head, custom pistons made for Russ Pottinger that match the Edelbrock combustion chamber, ported intake, connecting rods, HS Roller Rockers etc. Special thanks to Cal and Mark who are helping with this build. This is my first engine build, and it is great to have fellow members that I can learn from!

Laying out the rods and pistons - and putting them together

Getting the rings installed -and checking the piston position with the combustion chamber of the head

Installing the pistons - you can see how the kidney shape of the piston is directional based on the combustion chamber shape for each piston position.

Pistons and rods are all assembled in the block - that was it for the day, I made some good progress for it being my first time doing any of it!

No, but it may necessitate running premium. When I did mine I worked with Russ to keep it in the 9.4 range so I would be able to use regular.

RCPPhx is spot on. I will need to run 91 octane in the engine, but don't want to go any higher than 10.5 to 1. Cal tried running up around 11.5 I believe and had problems with it. If you run higher than 10.5 even with premium you have to pull so much timing out to alleviate pinging that you start reaching a point of diminishing returns.

I got rid of it this summer and did the viper coil swap, so I am all good there!

I did the same. I did not want the $ for gas. Mine will be a road going, with light trials. I do have a Viper coil planned. I'll be coping your bracket or at least use the idea.

If you didn't already I would p/u the Screamin Demon coil. I was able to open the gap on my Champion plugs to a safe .047" gap.

Why did you decide to go with this high of a comp ratio, for your elevation isnt that fairly high that close to sea level?

A little more progress on the stroker build. - I finally got the freeze plugs, cam in and timing set on yesterday.

The Melling freeze plugs that I bought were a pain in the ass to try to get in. I was lucky enough to have a local machine shop close by and got another set that actually fit!

We then installed the cam and timing chain. I went with a Lunati Vodoo cam. We degreed the cam and got everything dialed in.

Since I have a 2000 block I purchased a earlier block version spring bolt, I realized I have the bolt but didn't have the cam washer... doh.. That is the next thing I need to find so I can move forward with the build.

Progress continues on the build. I got some more done after work today - oil pan temporarily installed, lifters in and the head installed
