So what noise do you get when you put your transmission in P at 35mph?

The same freaking nosie you get when you put your trans into P when you dont have either driveshaft connected!

I just spent the afternoon tearing apart my t-case trying to find a noise that was being made whenever I shifted the transmission from either D or R into P.

Well, attach a rear DS and that noise isnt there and then you realize that what you thought was a "MASSIVE T-CASE PROBLEM" is actually just a senior moment about 60 years too early.

Thanks to Old-Man, Hinkley and BillR for helping me out.

interesting, hehe I think we all need the full story to this....you know so we don't run into the same problem :dunce:
I was getting ready for Moab and wanted to do an SYE and 2-lo kit. Tore my t-case apart, put the 2-lo in and did the SYE. The odd thing that I did though was remove the rear output shaft and chain without removing the front out put shaft. Surprised the heck outta some folks when I told them this as it really isnt very possible.

Anyway, got the t-case back together and started the Jeep up. Put it into gear and everything was okay, but noticed an odd noise when in D or P. The t-case shifted through everything just fine, but when I went to put the tranny back into P, it made a really horrible sound, that would stop after a few seconds.

So today, I tore the whole thing apart again, and was able to get the fron out put shaft off this time with an 8' breaker bar(brute force wins again). Got everything out, checked it, and then put everything back in. Same noises and such. I was fairly pis$ed. My Dad came over on his way home and told me that I need to attach the rear driveshaft so I wouldn't get the noise going into P or the whirring noise from the shaft spinning at idle when in D.

So tomorrow I will attach the shaft and go from there.

an 8' breaker bar?? feet?

Just about. It is a bar that we use for prying rocks out of the yard when we are digging post holes or something like that. Had my buddy pushing with a pipe wrench on the yoke, and I was pulling on the bar. Broke it free real quick like.

Yeah, well thtat didnt register because I had the front DS in, not the rear.

And BONEHEAD covers it just about perfectly.
